Rooms are mostly okay but you need to be cautious of mosquitoes in some of the rooms .

Food : caution required when you order fish as it may not be fresh despite their claim.
Room rates are high average

Safety is quite good and they should be given credit for it .

Villa das Mangas has boutique hotel features and good service at a reasonable price and is in a good, central, location on the 24 de Julho, near to Julius Nyerere, with easy access to the shops, restaurants, embassies and government departments of "uptown" Maputo.

It is not a perfect place but for the price it is good value, particularly by Maputo standards which tends to be an expensive destination.

The Bistro restaurant at the front is pleasant, with an elevated street view cafe, and serves good meals - it also had a great new chef when we visited and they seem to intend to make a bit of a splash. Not out of this world, but good, solid - Portuguese, continental style - cuisine. Service is more than adequate. There is an "ok" breakfast included in the price. Don't expect 5 star quality, but you will find something to be satisfied with.

It is a rambling old colonial building that has been added to and has a bit of a higgledly piggledy quality. Most of the rooms are set around an interior courtyard with a pool.

The rooms are sort of so, so - actually quite eclectic, with odd boutique features that are a bit shoddy in some aspects - the see through glass from the bathroom and loo to the bedroom with a view to the front door is not an excellent design choice.

But... overall Villa das Mangas under promises and over delivers. Yes, it's a bit shoddy in some places, but it more than makes up for this through good service and small hotel charm. They are trying. I'd rate it well compared with the large, international chain, hotels in Maputo. There are better small boutique hotels in Maputo, but you will pay a lot more for them.

Off road parking at the back and bell hop service for baggage.

Pleasant visit, very well located, great breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, simple rooms - However, avoid room 6 which should come with a warning as it turns out to be alongside the kitchen washing up area and is very noisy untill the nights washing is finished around midnight

The room was fine, the staff was cordial, but the breakfast was very poor.
The localization of the hotel is also good.
I didn't try the swimming pool, so I can't tell about that.
In summary, it was a good choice.

Stayed for three nights on a business trip. Wanted a central location and this was just the place - quiet as well. Room a little small and shower could have done with an upgrade but everything was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was OK but sometimes had to wait a while for buffet food to be replenished. Staff very helpful and friendly (plus speak English).
