I like visiting the market when i feel like i want to eat fish. Small one, the sardines. The fish in this market are fresh and they have variety of fish kinds. Actually it the places where all fishermen after fishing bring their products. So hopeful you get a picture on the richness of the place

This place has the widest variety of sea food. One thing we are certain about sea food is it has a strong smell. And the guys are not doing enough to make it be comfortable.

We went to buy some fresh prawns and octopus meat... Some good sea food righ there.

There are fried with pita bread and some super fresh sea food platter

So this is a fish market by the beach and one thing you can be sure of is that it will be smelly. No surprises there. Twice a day early mornings and late afternoon fisherman land their catch here and you can see the auctions of the catch. Seems to be utter chaos but business gets done.

The place is big and spreads out. There are also stalls selling the fish retail to the locals. Very noisy and crowded. You need to have your wits about you if you are just visiting alone. Best to go with a local. Worth it for the sight, sound and smell. Oh you also get to see the beach and walk into the calm warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

The place definitely not for people who are smell sensitive :). Horrible smell. My wife and kids were able to be there just for 5 mins, then it was only me deeply immered in fantastic smell!
Worth seeing as:
1. I have never seen so many kinds of fish
2. I have never seen people selling fish like that (not by weight, they sell them by buckets!)
3. I have never felt such horrible smell (I've been to some places in the world)
4. If you like price negotiations - this is the place for you.

For those who decide to go - never pay what you are asked for!. Just "next door" you can buy the same fish even 3 times cheaper!

As fish markets go this is a good one to visit. With someone who knows the language and what's going on it all comes to life for the visitor. For locals it's life and it all goes on here. The fishermen come in with their catch either early in the morning or late afternoon and sell their fish either to stall holders or by auction. Locals can eat there as well. I found it fascinating.
