Review of Marrakech Souk

Marrakech Souk
Ranked #3 of 123 things to do in Marrakech
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 April 2018

Visited the souk during the day and it was still crowded. Despite the crowd, it was easy to get around. Not sure of the snake charmers but was able to keep our distance; except for one gentleman that snuck up with a plastic-version scared the ladies (just a bit:))

If you haven't visited this kind of area before, you'll be fascinated. If you've been somewhere similar, you may find it underwhelming. Although there are shops selling local goods to local people, much seems to be aimed at tourists. The area itself is fascinating with lots of narrow alleys packed with people and motorbikes. Take care of the 'helpful' guides. One man told us the tanneries were worth seeing and as this was on his way home he would take us there. When we declined to follow him, he turned round and went back the way we'd come, looking for someone else to fool.
Don't be put off. Most people here are helpful, just be on your guard.

If you're in Marrakech you shouldn't miss the souk experience.

Love the Marrakech souk. Get lost in the spice souk and remember to buy little French cakes on every street corner. And remember to hackle - everything should be half off the suggested price from the vendor.

In order to buy anything from the souks make sure you can bargain. It is definitely worth a visit. Very crowded, coloful and lots of different things to see. You can easily get lost within the lanes of the souks.

Don’t go in for the first time without a guide. If you do then... don’t stop, don’t hesitate, don’t look at anything, don’t point at anything, don’t speak and you’ll probably be fine.
