Strolled into the Marina area one day intending to visit the fishing point. A moroccan gent being friendly pointed the way to the port and after small talk when on his way. As we neared the port he appeared again and being friendly guided us around the port showing the fish market and the food stall's. As we started to walk away he requested 200 for the guide as he had two children I pointed out I had four and gave him 20 as he was quite good but we hadnt asked to be quided.

Apparently the Koreans have a strong presence and advise the locals on fishing sardines for export along with other types of fish. Whereever the Koreans go you will find a Protestant church and it operates in another part of town on Sunday mornings.

You always know when the fish are being offloaded because you get a flock of seagulls overhead and they make a noise we all know. The fishing fleet is very old and all the boats are rusty but we suspect that is only superficial. There is a cannery too but I am told much fish is exported fresh by plane. The Sardines are the biggest I have ever seen.

We were one a guided tour of Agadir and probably spent 25 minutes in the port, that being enough time to drive around it. However you have to go through security and if you have not paid for a guided tour then we are unsure whether you would be allowed access.

We did not see toilets but even if they are there, they will be basic fisherman standard.

Too big to walk around so stay on the coach or in you car if allowed.

Enjoy the smell.

Chris & Anna.

As with all agadir you stand out like a sore thumb and locals surround you... go with a tour guide who you have already paid... this avoids the whole 'tipping' experience that the locals expect / demand.

Nice to see the locals out of the tourists industry...

we were tagged by a local as we approached the port.after a 5 minute walk about he put out his hand,I offered him several coins but he ibsisted on a banknote!!!!!.He made a claim that he needed to buy food for his children[claimed 40yrs as a fisherman which meant his children must be in their thirties. We thought he appeared aggressive.BEWARE
