We make a point to stop in to the General Store whenever possible. Sunday afternoons/evenings have an open mic/open stage. It does get busy on the weekends, especially in the fall. They have added a beer garden this summer. Walking in you might expect regular bar food, but it is much better. They take your standard burgers and give them a personal flare. The newest addition we found incorporates a cream cheese mix on your burger. I subbed a chicken breast in place of the burger and can't stop talking about it. My wife likes the lamb gyro. They have created a few of their own unique drinks. Try the Wapsirita...don't ask if the special ingredient comes from the Wapsi River just out the back door. During the fall keep your head up when driving in as there are a lot of deer in that area.

Glad to hear you enjoy your trips down to the Pub! Thanks for the deer warning. A great reminder this time of year.

Wonderful food in historic Stone City, Ia. Amazing food and great staff. Be sure to check out the bar area in the basement or eat on the deck overlooking the river. How they cook such a variety of great food in they're very small kitchen is amazing. Will definately go back.

Our food was pub food, and was fine. The ambiance was excellent. Staff were very friendly and gave recommendations for food. The spinach and artichoke won tons were really good. The Bloody Mary drink was quite tasty and only $5. At the end of the meal, the server lit a small container of gel ethanol at our table and we roasted marshmallows. In all our travels, we had never done this before. This former general store is a historic stone building. There are tables outside right along the Wapsi River, if you want to sit outdoors. Though the address is Anamosa, this is actually located about 4 miles away in Stone City, Iowa. We will return.

Been wanting to visit Stone City for years, and we were told by a gentleman at the Anamossa tourism office that this was a good place to dine. Building was an original Stone City limestone structure with comfortable outdoor dining on the Wapsi River. Menu was limited, so we ordered tenderloin and pulled pork sandwiches as suggested by our waitress. Both ($10 each) were rather disappointing; the tenderloin was greasy and rather tasteless; the pulled pork wasn't cooked in a smoker, so there wasn't even a hint of smoke. Homemade chips came with both and were greasy, yet tasty. Portions were generous. Service was rather slow, but I don't blame that on our waitress who was recovering from previous day knee surgery; seemed the kitchen was the pokey culprit. Seems the place is also an area venue for live music. I wouldn't go back just for the food, though.

Take CRX 28 into Stone City. It will be on the south side of the road on the north side of the Wappsi River by the bridge. Take this way because some of the gravel roads by the river are flooded. A great Iowa Tenderloin or shrimp tacos. The onion rings were also good. Unique place that cannot be built in today's world.
