This is a must see if you want to understand the great Mayan civilization. Make sure you hire a guide so that you get the most out of your visit and go early in the morning before it gets too hot as there is not much shelter. The site is well maintained and is well signed in both Spanish and English. You can also see the ongoing archeological digs. Make sure you go to the excellent museum on site which is built into the side of a mountain and then explodes into a vast two storey space. This will help you put into context what you have seen in the ruins. There is also a cafe on site for that much needed cold drink when you have finished. Wear sensible shoes and take sunscreen and insect repellent as well as water.

Winderful place, pretty close to being our favourite of all the Mayan Ruins we visited on our trip across Mexico,, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.
Just the right blend of untouched splendour and lovingly manicured ruin. The lawns are tended perfectly to show off the temples and the trees add a leafy solitude and charm.
Mesmerising beauty and elegance. You can get right up to and onto the temples. A very special place that words can't really do justice to, you have to go see it for yourself.
