Macaw Mountain is a wonderful adventure. Started by rescuing birds people no longer wanted or were wounded. Today it is a fabulous collection of birds from central america that if not human-centric - are being released back into the wild. The tour guide was absolutely fabulous and is highly recommended. And having toured the attraction about 8 times I can tell you they are constantly improving and expanding the facility. The mocha granitas at the end of the tour are to die for. And of course their Miramundo coffee is available - even in 5 pound bags. The most exciting part is when they let you hold 3 of the Macaws on your arms and head. Truly a wonderful experience.

This is much more than a tourist destination. The bird rescue and rehab, and release would happen with or without visitors to the center. They are doing important work to re-introduce and re-populate the Copan valley with its indigenous birds. We learned that the macaws that live and fly free in the Copan ruins are from the efforts of this center.
