My cousin and I went back home to Guatemala (from the US) to start the process of clearing our grandparents' home in Zone 1. As "locals" we could have stayed anywhere, including our own home, but thought it wise and practical to have a separate space close by to which we could retreat at the end of each day. We were there for 10 days and Casa Carmel was truly our home away from home...at home.
From the super convenient airport pickup to the suitcase they let me borrow for my trip back, the staff was incredibly gracious in every way (bless you, Sophie). The rooms were neat and comfortable. The cooked-to-order breakfast was a welcome start to each day and the greeting at the front door the perfect close to every evening (thank you Rosa and Sylvia). Perhaps the water pressure could be better and it'd be nice to get Wi-Fi in every corner of, but that is a minute trade-off for first-class attention and the willingness to accommodate our every need. It is also very common in the Historic District and a trademark of the beautiful traditional homes that have been classified as cultural heritage in Guatemala. I am happy to say that I will have an opportunity to return Sophie's suitcase when I stay with her again in October. See you soon!More
