Had a terrific time! Loved the experience! We both felt at home and truly enjoyed the privacy. Neighbor's were friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with them. Jana, our host, was very helpful.
Just returned from a week away at Mayflower Casita and LOVED it! The cutest place to stay. The yard is gorgeous.
If just the husband and I go back we will definitely book Mayflower Casita! If we take the kids we will need to stay somewhere else but will stay at that end of the island.
Mayflower was perfect in every way. Brian and Carole are wonderful if you have any questions and are happy to share lots of information.
We stayed at the Mayflower Casita for a couple of weeks in March and we were so glad that we did. It's a lovely green oasis amid the dusty roads of San Pedro. The owners Carole and Brian were very welcoming and provided excellent communications prior to our arrival as well. Brian was kind enough to pick us up from where we initially were staying and dropped us off at the airport on the day we left which wasn't expected but most appreciated. When we initially arrived the Casita we were pleased to see green grass and nice colourful decor ... the Casita was clean and comfortable and great accommodations for two people. Upon our arrival we had drinking water provided for us in the refrigerator (to get us started) and Brian provided additional large bottles for purchase whenever we needed more which we really appreciated because we didn't rent a golf cart during our stay. The location was very convenient ... a short walk off of the main road which meant for nice quiet evenings. It's less than 5 minute walk to Banana Beach hotel where we had use of their pool while there which was very nice on hot days. The beach is directly behind Banana Beach and you can walk the beach into town as well. We are really big walkers and therefore we never bothered renting a golf cart even though Carole and Brian offered to arrange one if necessary. The walk to the nearest grocery store was about 10 minutes (pink one is called Super Buy and is very clean and well stocked) and the walk into town was maybe 20-25 minutes depending on whether you walked the street or the beach. We also shopped for groceries at Mermaid Grocery which was about 15 minutes from the Casita and the largest store called Island City a few minutes past Mermaid. The streets are well lit at night and we had no issues walking home in the evenings after dinner in town. The Casita itself had everything we needed to cook for ourselves too and we ate in many evenings. The only thing we wished we had was an oven but that wasn't a big deal and Carole and Brian provide access to a gas BBQ which we used several times. There are excellent restaurants throughout San Pedro and the best chicken BBQ spot (Robin's Kitchen) is only a 5 minute walk from the Casita and we ordered take out from there and brought back to the Casita on several occasions! Best coffee place we found (and also awesome fresh bagels) was Brooklyn Brothers and was less than a 10 minute walk from the Casita too (and you can buy fresh ground coffee next door to Brooklyn at Caye Coffee Roastery). The Casita has the necessary dishes and utensils for cooking, a coffee maker and an awesome blender which we used alot to make fresh pina coladas! The water for dishes and shower was hot and as required. The bed and pillows comfortable and the air conditioning excellent and necessary (for us anyways) to sleep at night! We also enjoyed the hammock and lounge chair out front as a place to relax and read our books. We also found out that the local soccer team (San Pedro Pirates) plays games on Sundays (not all Sundays) and the new stadium is only a 5-7 minute walk from the Casita too and we managed to get out to a couple of games which was a ton of fun. All in all we had a wonderful visit to San Pedro and staying at the Mayflower Casita ... without hesitation we would recommend to anyone a stay at the Mayflower Casita!
This was my first visit to San Pedro, and as a solo woman traveller, I'm glad I chose to stay at the Mayflower Casita. Hosts Carole and Brian are charming and very accommodating. The Casita is a private one-bedroom house, surrounded by a beautiful shaded garden oasis. Spent so much chilling time in the hammock, sky-gazing and listening to birdsong. I did not rent a golf cart, so most times I walked to and from San Pedro center via street or beach (about 25 minutes one way). Taxis were available on the corner near Banana Beach resort, especially if I chose to travel into town at night. The double bed was comfortable, and a safety deposit box is available on site. Both the LR and BR have ceiling fans, and the BR has an air-conditioning unit, making it cool and quiet for a good night's rest. There is a full kitchen, however it was cheaper for me to eat at the local food stands, especially Robin's Kitchen (right up the street). MC is located in the southern end of Ambergris Caye. There are no beaches to speak of, like we have in the States, because of the buildup of sargasso grass--(a natural event happening all over the Caribbean); however as a guest, you have access to the pools at Banana Beach. All in all, a great experience in San Pedro, and a most enjoyable, much-needed downtime at Mayflower Casita!
Mayflower Casita is such a perfect spot while staying in Ambergris Caye. The location is just off the beaten path so it is quiet and private. Yet it is just a short walk to the beach and all other things happening in town. The yard is amazing, so lush and green. Carole and Brian are perfect hosts. They met our every need while giving us space to enjoy their place. I recommend the Mayflower Casita without reservation. We will return again some day.
