Pros: We loved the apartment, worked out very well for the 5 of us. Living room balcony provided an amazing view and the master bedroom (with view) and master bath were more than expected. Plenty of room for 5 or more people and the a 2nd bathroom was a real plus. Kitchen is very modern, with everything you need except for spices -- salt, pepper, and maybe some season-all would have been nice. The washroom was nice and laundry soap was provided so we didn't have to make an extra trip to the store. A cell phone was also made available for making local calls.
The owners of the property (Cameron and Stephanie) were very helpful and responded to all my e-mails almost immediately. When we decided just a few days before our arrival to add an extra day on the front-end they were very accommodating; answered all our questions and assured us that Maya Island Air would let us change our flight to leave a day early. They also provided us with a taxi to take us to the resort from the airport and back.
The travel company (SUYA Tours) just up the road arranged for our snorkel excursion with the snark and Mata rays. They pretty much match prices we were finding online and the boat conveniently picked us up at the dock next to the resort; I'd definitely recommend this as something everyone of all ages should do.
Cons: The only real downside of our stay was Richard in the concierge office; he was of no help. A golf cart is needed to travel back in to town and he only promotes the $85 a day carts onsite. Checking online there are several places that would deliver a cart right to the property for $45/day -- a HUGE savings. In hindsight I'd wished we had known to make these arrangements in advance. Another problem was making arrangements for the taxi ride back to the airport. The day before our flight I requested and was assured a 10:15AM pickup; then at 10:10AM I went to the office and said we're all ready to leave for our 11:00AM flight.. After 15 minutes of waiting I asked where our taxi was and he said it wasn't scheduled to arrive until 11:15AM. This was very disconcerting, especially with a connecting flight in Belize City. Richard tried to blame the taxi driver for the confusion and called them again. The taxi driver still had the message on his phone from the previous day and he was given the wrong time. Hats off to the taxi drive (Manolo's son) for getting us to the airport on time.
