Love the cozy atmosphere, warm staff, yummy food and drink selection in this gem tucked away in a "blink and you'll miss it" row of shops on Old Milton. Fantastic acoustics!

Place was packed; many obviously having been there before. As advertised, a warm, intimate venue (only up to about 40 guests). No one seemed to have a clue as to what time the doors would open or the band would start. Service was friendly and quite quick. No water available except bottled. Wine prices by the bottle are reasonable. Not a large selection but no problem. Red wine served warm so we asked for a bucket of ice water which was immediately brought. Wine and drinks served in glasses. Food on disposable plastic plates and with plastic utensils, supposedly to reduce noise during the performance. We had read the other reviews about the food so I was leary. I ordered the $11 flat bread pizza which was a total waste of money. Bread with a very little tomato sauce, a little basil and, maybe, 1/3 oz. of bland mozzarella. My husband ordered the $20 short ribs. Comes with mashed potatoes and some roasted vegies. Not a huge portion by any means but the meat was delicious. I saw that many in the audience ordered a drink and no food or just bought the dip appetizer or dessert. Certainly did not see 40 plates of food coming out of the back.. ok, enough on the food.
The sound coming from the stage was great as far as the music. The voice of the headliner was excellent. What a shame that the mike or something in the sound system seemed to be off as the words were completely unintelligible. For a venue that is advertised as being acoustically terrific, I would say that this may apply to music but most certainly does not apply to hearing lyrics.
The place must be doing something right to bring in packed houses of repeaters but I am clueless as to what it is.
Oh well, an interesting experience, ONCE.

The Velvet Note is a great place to hear Jazz. The AMP Trio was outstanding. The drinks were decent and fairly priced. If you want a side of ice water with your cocktail, you have to buy bottled water. Absurd. The food is inedible. Eat elsewhere, come to enjoy the Jazz and cocktails or wine. During the Jazz set, my view was constantly blocked by the wait staff. Could not believe how intrusive they were. During the encore, they were settling bills from various patrons. This was rude to both the customers and the performers. The AMP trio was fabulous. Great place to enjoy jazz, if only the wait staff weren't so rude and intrusive.

Local gem! We have seen a few artists/groups here. Worth the visit. Drinks and food are slightly pricey. But we think the ambiance is worth it. Worth supporting this club to keep it open in the suburbs. Highly recommend!
