Locals talk about how Ajax's 675 skiable acres "ski big for its size". With a lift almost everywhere you turn, and impeccable grooming on a highly interconnected set of trails, Ajax lives up to that billing. I found it easy to ski from one side of the area to the other, with favorite tracks in Copper Bowl, Copper trail, and Powderhound on the west side.

I was prepared to skip this mountain and only hit Highlands and Snowmass assuming that the mountain didn't get a lot of sun when no fresh snow fell & there wasn't enough there to make for a long, fulfilling day. Wow, was I wronger than wrong! Thankfully I ran into a skier who really knew the mountain that said I absolutely couldn't miss it. Even though I ride, he sounded so convincing that we changed plans. The terrain was better than I expected and the runs were pretty long and fast for an east coaster. The Copper bowl trail was especially memorable. Unfortunately there is a catwalk that all double diamond trails lead into which was not great and should really be re-graded fro snowboarders (but likely won't), but the lodges are what you would expect from an Aspen mountain and did not disappoint in that area. I would still spend more time on the other 2 mountains I mentioned due to bigger and varied terrain but this was not a mountain to miss by any stretch.

It's walking distance from downtown Aspen. has some awesome runs, some aspen glade skiing, some good steep runs...
Not too many choices for beginners. The food on the mountain next to the gondola is good too.
At the end of the day stop by Ajax Tavern or Chair 9 for some drinks.

Just returned from a great family ski trip. Loved the efficiency (and comfort) of the Gondolas. Attendants helped load skis and we discovered that the Red Gondolas are Bluetooth compatible so we were able to play music on our trip up to the top. Needed Ski Patrol's help when son took a tumble- they were top notch! We felt we got our money's worth because of the amount of runs we made, the snow condition on the mountain-both groomed and left natural- the excellent service from the morning coffee at the base and the ticket office staff to the ski patrol expertise. Well Done!
