We visited on a very busy Saturday night, but the line to order moved quickly. The sign to read the menu was very small print and confusing. We got our order placed and got our chips and salsa. Had to ask for a second bowl of salsa, they were small and my husband does not share. We were lucky to find an open table. Later people walked around and could not find one. The chips and salsa were superb. The salsa was definitely home made with lots of celantro. I got the carnita tostadavandvit was huge. Meat was tender and well seasoned. Hubby had a burrito and it was well stuffed. Huge portions. Would definitely come back!

Stopped here after an event with a large group. The tables are set up to easily accommodate large groups. Food came at all different times though we all were in line together, one order was wrong out of five. Large hall like seating area, but very full and busy on a Sunday afternoon. Food portions reasonably sized. Food was good basic Southern California Mexican. If you haven't been here before ordering can be difficult as the menu board is at counter and the type size is to small to read much before you are at order counter. An additional menu board placed where you could read it earlier in line would be a good addition.

In the area around Azusa there is no shortage of Mexican restaurants, however, walking into La Tolteca is like walking into a cantina in a small Mexican village. They even have a fountain in the courtyard in front of the entrance. Great atmosphere and some of the best Mexican food in the area. I have only eaten there at noontime, and attesting to the quality of the food, the restaurant can be quite full at that time of the day. You order at the counter, and someone brings your food to your table.

Went here after checking the reviews and decided to give it a try. Good food and nice size portions. The standard salsa has no kick but you can ask for spicy salsa also. My favorite part was ordering and paying fast food style, but having the sit down environment.

We’ve been going to Tolteca for years (about 30).
Recently they added some new items to their menu, including fish tacos. I like their menudo available only Sat/Sun.
Walk-up to order and food is brought to you. Best affordable Mexican food in the area. Food always arrives piping hot the way I like it.
Nice flamenco/Gipsy Kings style music when they remember to turn it on.
Attentive staff.
