“Avalon, St. Catalina Island”
Reviewed 30 January 2006

Avalon is a small little tourist trap on an Island near the coast of Los Angeles. It's a fun weekend getaway in the warmer months, but it becomes very quiet in the winter months. Cruise ships frequent this spot year round.
The main attraction in Catalina is the Grand Casino and the Scuba Diving. The Grand Casino does not have gambling, but does offer tours of the ballroom and the theater for about $14 per person. Lots of bars and restaurants in this tiny little town, but the prices are a bit higher than what many expect.

“Romantics Dream”
Reviewed 5 June 2004

I saw Catalina on The Glass Bottom Boat with Doris Day years ago but only got the chance to visit in June 03. This must be one of the most peaceful (no cars) and romantic places on earth, sadly we could only stay for a few hours but next time we will stay for a few days, the trip across was pleasant and we saw some dolphins playing in the boats wake, this really is worth the trip and came all thye way from England!!

“Catalina Dream”
Reviewed 27 April 2003

I have never been to a more magical, surreal place than Avalon on Catalina Island. The atmosphere, the shops, the sights, the snorkeling was all wonderful. The locals were great and friendly. I loved the cobblestone street, the small beaches, the private beach club. I loved everything about Catalina and will definitely return time and time again.
