A really nice little island off the coast of Los Angeles. Fantastic garden view property on the main strip. Rooms were superb and staff was great. Nice breakfast with a wine/cheese tasting in the afternoon. Only wish we had a few more days to stay. Would definitely go back.

This hotel is not worth $400. Yes, it has a great location, but honesty the rooms are small, the beds are old, and you can hear people above you on the second floor walking (that will keep you awake)! We slept horribly the first two nights due to people walking above us on the second floor until 1am. There's a continental breakfast, and a wine and cheese hour in the afternoon, but that still doesn't justify the high price. It's just a standard hotel, nothing special.

We spent two days in Ccatalina Island for my husband's birthday, and I'm glad I picked Pavilion Hotel.
The location is very convenient, situated on the main street, close to the Ferry and the port, where is the meeting point for most activities.
We booked several tours in one day, so we rushed in and out, even without time to put stuff back to our room. The front desk agent - Sarah, was very kind to help us with our luggages, pointing locations, and had everything stored nicely in the room. The bellman was also very polite and offered assistance throughout our stay.
The room is decent size with basic amenities. For the price, there are a few things that can be improved. The bathroom is a little bit outdated, you can easily find cracks on the bathtub. The omelette bar during breakfast was nice, but very slow. And it took a while for them to replenish clean utensils. Additinal staffing is definitely required for busy mornings.
Pavilion offers some complimentary tours and bikes which add great values and fun to the stay. Overall I'll recommend it to people who want a relaxing short gateway.

Catalina Island is NOT Europe, even though it's landscape largely mirrors the island of Capri. But don't expect Capri. For $350 a night, you'll be treated like a tourist, shuffled in and out, make do with lackluster customer service, and put up with a room that could look like a college dorm. Now....on e you know what to expect, the Pavilion will deliver. Do NOT expect 4 or 5 star service, and you will enjoy your stay better. Do NOT expect glamor on Catalina and your stay will be better. For being one of the better hotels on the island, I'm afraid that I would recommend going to Europe instead, for the amount of money I paid for this entire trip. The room was indeed musty smelling and the maids need to air out the rooms before clients come in. Everything needs remodeling. And I mean everything. No late check out because travelers are basically a herd to be shuffled in and out like cattle. The omelet breakfasts are cool but be prepared to wait in a long long line. And no mimosas! Location is great but the beach in front is unusable and faces the dock. You must go to Descanto BeCh Club for a decent beach. When you adjust your expectation levels, travel gurus, you could enjoy the Pavilion. But I recommend take the two grand and flying to Europe.

Hi Anne Marie,

Thanks for staying with us at Pavilion Hotel, though we are sorry that your experience wasn't a more positive one.

The beach that is outside the Pavilion is very usable--there are often many individuals laying out on their towels, relaxing, or playing in the sand. This beach ("South Beach") does not not have chaise lounges, so if you are looking for lounge chairs, yes, Descanso Beach Club or the Pavilion courtyard are the best for those.

The summer months are the busiest time on the island. For a more relaxed stay, we do recommend travel in October - March. In October, the weather is still beautiful and that island is significantly less crowded.

For a mimosa experience,Avalon Grille has bottomless mimosas for $13.

Pros: We loved the central location, courtyard & breakfast. Bed was soft and the room was clean. Service was mostly good.

Cons: Lots of little things added up enough to give a grim review considering the high price.

1. No one was at the ferry dock for luggage pick up as advertised (We don't have wheels on our luggage) Luckily the hotel is not far.
2. TV was not working properly (blacked out in intervals for minutes at a time making it impossible to watch programs, especially movies)
3. Phone speaker had a constant static noise (we needed to unplug it the whole trip)
4. The safe did not work
5. Tub stop was broken
6. Main light switch upon entering was oddly placed at 2-3ft off the ground. Sloppy placement for a hotel striving for excellence... unless you're an oompa loompa.
7. Lamp switch was not working

I spoke to the front desk to no avail, called again, and sent the manager an email. I have not received a response. We will probably try another place next time.
