If you read the extensive history of this place you realize that it must be a classic to have survived this long. It doesn't disappoint. It is just what it should be. A steakhouse in the traditional sense, with club like decor, a trophy case full of historical items from nearby Santa Anita, a well polished staff, and good food!
The steaks and seafood were excellent, and the bartenders ands servers friendly, knowledgable, and efficient. I will go back the next time I'm in town.
The only other comment I can make is that the clientele clears out by 9:30, even on weekends, and the place is dead by 10 PM. It's ok, go early.

Thank Mike P

If you're in the mood for a great steak or prime rib dinner this is the place for it. The food was delicious. The prime rib was perfectly done, and I had the special prime rib with shrimp scampi, which was also delicious with a melted butter caper sauce. We enjoyed a Raymond Merlot with our meal.

There was a good value special fixed price menu that included 3 courses--starter, entree, and dessert.

The server was a character, a woman who was efficient, but cracking jokes for fun.

The restaurant is a short walk from the Embassy Suites by the way, but also has a large parking lot and valet parking.

Decorations tied to horse racing history though the seating area has got the feel of an old style restaurant including red leather booths.

Food and service is excellent. Try to get barbara as your server; she fits perfectly with the restaurant.

One criticism- they need to fix the neon sign's D which seems to have been out for awhile otherwise look for the Erby

Whilst staying in Arcadia I saw "The Derby" and thought I'd try it for dinner one evening. As the name implies there is a horse racing theme and history to this bar / restaurant and it has a great historic / 'British Gentry' feel about it, and I can say that as I am British myself. The lighting is low and the dark wood paneled walls and leather seats make for a very intimate and moody ambiance. The menu has some good choices but prices are on the high side. I had the Ground Filet (which was basically a high quality burger but served with gravy, jacket potato and green beans rather than in a bun) which was tasty but expensive for what it was at US$25. I finished off with the famous Derby Bread Pudding which was delicious also (US$9). The service was a bit lax considering it is a more classy restaurant and the staff were very inattentive and slow to wait on my table. Now I was eating in the lounge bar area but that is no excuse for average to poor service. I do recommend The Derby but do expect to pay top dollar for your dinner.

The Derby restaurant is a throw back to the days of the older traditional steak houses of the 50's and 60's. Many jockeys from the Sanita Anita Race Track would frequent this restaurant and, if you happen to see the comedy "Stepbrothers", you would catch a glimpse of the exterior and interior of this establishment.

Steeped in tradition, the Derby does serve good food. Their filet mignon and prime rib are quite good as well as their other beef, lamb and chicken specialties. If you like nostalgia and yearn for the days of the Rat Pack, you'll love the decor and ambiance of the Derby. It's a classic steak house that continues a tradition that is getting harder to find these days.
