Absolutely the best in dining in Santa Cruz. Michel and Muriel Loubiere have created an intimate setting with excellent cuisine. She cooks, he greets and serves. But that barely tells the tale. Many people who have discovered this gem would like to keep it a safely guarded secret, but the rest of you would be missing out on a treat if we don't share.
So, go - - enjoy. Bon apetite!

I have eaten here a number of times now. It always reminds me of my favorite eating experiences in France. Their menu is innovative and unique, not your "typical" french dishes but a step beyond. They change the menu fairly often in order to incorporate seasonal foods.

This last visit I had the mozzarella souffle appetizer which was so light and delicious. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and served with a sweet potato puree and an apple cider emulsion sauce that was so good I used my spoon to get the last drop.

My 23 year old daughter who is a notoriously picky eater had the chicken fricassee and she too finished every bite on her plate. My brother who ate there with his wife for their anniversary raved about the steak bordelaise.

Although I was too full for dessert on this last visit, make sure you save room. Every dessert I have had there has been delicious. They also have a very nice selection of wines from France and the Santa Cruz mountains. All wines are $8.00 per glass and $29.00 per bottle which seems soooo reasonable. If you can't decide ask Michel for a recommendation. With my sea scallops he recommended the pinot blanc which was perfect.

The owners are very gracious. Michel is there checking on everything and Chef Muriel comes out to chat with the diners. It is the perfect combination of being casual and warm but also elegant. It is a lovely, lovely place. It is not cheap, but for the quality you get it is very reasonable.

Simplicity, comfort, and elegance. Michael & Muriel Loubiere take the pretension out of 'haut cuisine'. Close your eyes, point to anything on the menu, sit back and enjoy. There is an intense combination of creativity, infused with a warm hug at the end of each bite. Plus, no corkage fee! Don't miss this gem.

Great French food, and good value, especially the wine list, on which all the wines are $7/glass, $27/bottle. If you like Maigret ask them to give it to you French-style -- they overcook it a bit for American taste. Despite that, everything three of us had was terrific! The only disappointment was the bread (mediocre Ciabatta). Surely there's good French bread to be had in the area.
