“Beautiful area, wonderful cool temperatures”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2011

The white mountains are as beautiful as ever and Hannagan Meadow is lush and inviting. After the devastating fires this spring, we were not sure how we would find the lodge and surrounding area . We were very pleased with the rustic cabins and quiet peaceful area. Temperatures were in the 70's. There was evidence of the fire on our drive, but thanks to the valiant efforts of firefighters the lodge and meadow were spared. The only lingering effects from the spring fire, there is no phone service (cell phones do not work either) at the lodge and cash was needed for meals. It was wonderful to be disconnected from cell phones and outside electronics. Take the time to visit this fabulous area where all you need to do is relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Do not come expecting the Ritz, the accommodations are plain but comfortable. Cabins are fully self supporting. Our cabin had 2 bedrooms, a shared bath, living room/dining area and a full kitchen. The lodge food was excellent (chef quality) and the view of the meadow was wonderful. We enjoyed watching the deer graze during dinner. The staff was friendly, efficient and always available to meet any need.

Hannigan Meadow is a very special area and the Lodge is a great place to lay your head after a day of exploring. I have been to Hannigan Meadow several times in the past and when I learned that the Willow fire was moving through that area I was devastated. My sister, mother and I were planning a weekend away and during the heat of the AZ summer Hannigan Meadow was really the only place to go. Fortunately Hannigan Meadow and the Lodge were spared. Patricia and her mother Janice were fabulous hostesses. In the crazy times after the fire, before our planned weekend, Patricia kept in touch with me to update me on the situation. Patricia assured me that the lodge would be ready for us and that everything would be great. She was right. After driving through devastated forests all along highway 191 we entered the meadow and, like a fairy tale, were transported into the beauty of the meadow. The lodge has been restored after the fire and the place looked, and smelled, great!!. We stayed in the small cabin Thiel and found everything to be just as we had hoped. The cabin appeared to have been recently restored and everything was clean and comfortable. We had packed food to prepare and found the kitchen to be stocked with utensils and pots and pans and even a chip clip!! Of course since the fire has only just recently moved through the area exploring in the forest was not an option. This was, of course, disappointing, but soon enough, if it has not already been, the forest will reopen to exploration. Our three days were fabulous and the only thing I personally had a problem with was leaving. Thank you Patricia and Janice, we will return. Angela Knox

Janice and the staff were excellent! We were afraid our family vacation was ruined following the Wallow Fire. Instead we had another memorable family vacation at Hannagan Meadow. The national forest being closed forced us to be creative with our time. Janice was only too happy to provide suggestions. We still were able to fish and hike, but in new areas. The quiet and solitude were enhanced by very few people making the journey up the rim and the 30 to 40 degree temperature difference from Phoenix was worth it alone!

Room Tip: Cabins allow you to bring your own food and cook yourself....saves money!

We didn't know if our reservation was still in effect due to the Wallow Fire that burned through that area just a few weeks prior. After housing fire fighters, who used the site as a base camp, they began cleanup on the lodge and cabins. The largest cabin was made ready in time for our reservation. It was clean with lot's of room for us and our stuff. The kitchen allowed us prepare our own food (although some items were missing due to the cleanup efforts). It was quiet because cell phone signal is not available for any carrier and we happened to be the only ones there.

The dining room food was well prepared. They were very accommodating to one of our party who had some special dietary needs and very friendly to all of us. We felt as though we were dining at someone's home instead of a restaurant. The prices were a bit steep so plan accordingly if you're on a limited budget.

We came expecting a good experience and left with exceeded expectations. Thank you.

My wife and I left Alpine heading south hoping the lodge would be open after being closed as a result of the Wallow fire and have a vacancy. We were very pleased to get one of the rustic cabins which we found to be clean and in good shape. Even though it was mid summer we appreciated and enjoyed to fireplace. The restaurant is not yet open but the staff were attentive and prepared an excellent light dinner for us. The bed was firm and with the quiet of the meadow allowed us both a good night's sleep. Wildflowers abounded as did birds in and around the meadow. It was our first time and we will return.
