This hotel was amazing in every way. The rooms were amazing. Very spacious rooms. The concierges were so wonderful. We had a lot of questions and they gave us a lot of great advice on places to go. Got us tickets to the African American Museum :) It was awesome and told us which museums were the best and how much time to allot to each one. It was fabulous. Didn't really eat at any of the restaurants as we were on the move most of the time. Our view wasn't the best but we didn't really need one.

The hotel lobby and bar are very upmarket looking and the hotel is in a great location for all the major attractions - white house a short walk away. The vacation club rooms are located on the 7th floor. Our room was old, not particularly clean, looked out onto a wall and apart from the usual exceptional comfortable marriott bed had absolutely nothing else to recommend it. Worse point was the air conditioning - it was like having a fork lift truck operating in your room! The windows did not open and the room was dark, stuffy and oppressive. There is an executive lounge on the 8th floor which served a decent enough breakfast (although no early evening snacks at the weekend). Perhaps we were spoiled by coming here straight after the Custom House Pulse in Boston which was fantastic - this doesn't even compare. It was our first visit to Washington, from the UK, and we were very impressed with the city so would like to come back some day but would prefer to stay somewhere else when we do.

The 7th floor of the Mayflower is a Marriott Vacation Club property. Stay in a suite for additional room if you can. Service is great and it's a classic hotel experience. Highly recommend. Depending on Marriott Rewards level you can get breakfast and light dinner in the Concierge lounge.

Stopped by DC to rest and have dinner on the way back from Chapel Hill, NC. Stayed at the AC Hotel there and it's great: clean, great value, modern and people are really nice. I'm from NYC, so basically most places are polite to me.

I'm also a Marriott Vacation Club owner, so figured the Pulse should be good. I was wrong.

The hotel is super old and it's simply not updated at all. From the light fixtures in the elevator, the staff pushing you aside on their way into the elevator, to the Club Level room looking like an outed den from the 60s. The reception was very well managed though.

Location is so so and not a plus. And the history of the hotel from housing VPs, Supreme Court Justices, Monica Lewinsky and Carlos Danger... I don't get it. Even on my tax dollars I wouldn't have them stay here.

Small room, but historic (with plaque). Many stories to be had from hotel staff. Front desk very welcoming. Easy access to sites using your feet or the metro. You can park across the street and leave the car there for the duration, or you can use the Marriott valet option. Trash trucks arrived daily around 05.45 on the north side (DeSales NW).

As a long-time Marriott Rewards member, the concierge lounge leaves much to be desired. It appears that Marriott uses the Mayflower as a destination for the package deals to entice people to buy MVCI points. As a result, the lounge was overfilled daily with people who thought that the object of the game was to take as much food as possible in the shortest amount of time. I felt for the concierge group trying to control the rabble.

Room tip: Rooms can be small. Reserve a suite if possible. Historic rooms are available e.g. FDR inaugural speech written in 776.
