Going to Politics & Prose has long been on my list of attractions to take in in D.C. It did not disappoint! Extremely deep collection of books in a wide variety of categories & the store vibe was full of appreciative readers. A great place to just hang out & browse through the book aisles or to enjoy a coffee while perusing a purchase.

I came from Philadelphia to attend their recent author of it with Francesca Ramsey in conversation with Damon Young. The event was excellent. I’m so glad to see how they regularly bring authors to connect with the community. I do wish they would require an RSVP so that they know how many people to expect and could plan to have adequate seating. There were about 40 people standing in the back after seating ran out. I do like how the staff worked to make sure the event concluded on time and helped everyone meet the author in a timely manner. I also noticed there coffee shop and wine boutique downstairs which was a nice touch for a bookstore. They seem to have a pretty wide selection of books on all various topics. I would love to attend another event here.

Politics and prose is a small well stocked bookstore that specializes in political themed books. You can find favorites with opinions from both sides of the aisle.

Politics & Prose is one of our favorite places whenever we want just to have a laid-back experience. We like to browse the extensive shelves for books, we like to attend presentations by authors and we like to have a good sandwich and coffee in the basement café.

Yesterday, we stopped by during the lunch period. We both enjoyed a turkey and avocado sandwich, one of their mainstays. They also offer two versions of grilled cheese - both are great. They have several types of "toasts" which are like sandwiches with only one piece of bread and they also offer soups. Multiple coffee options are available as well as pastries.

Seating can be limited so I recommend grabbing a table as soon as you arrive or maybe one in your party can order the food at the counter while another circulates, looking for departing customers. Limited street parking is available on Wisconsin Avenue but I generally can find free parking in the small lot off the alley behind the store. There is an entrance directly into the café from that lot. Wi-Fi is not available in the café from 11 AM until 2 PM to discourage table-hogging by PC users.

All in all, this is a pleasant low key eating experience before or after browsing for books.
