While the metro has challenges for those of us working and living in DC, with its constant disruptions, it is the perfect transportation option for visitors to our nation’s capital who are not on a tight schedule or under pressure to get to the office in time. Compared to other major capitals in Europe and in the US, it is cheap, accessible and easy to use. One can buy a day pass or multi day pass, which is a good value or load value into the metro card. Maps are available in several languages and the metro network reaches all the major attractions in the city. Another advantage of the metro is that one can book accommodation in the suburbs, close to a metro stop and pay less for a better room and still have access to all the city has to offer without paying premium prices of city center accommodations. I recommend Arlington and beyond hotels along the blue and orange line and Bethesda/Rockville along the red line in the direction of Shady Grove. Try to avoid rush hour if possible!

Used the metro to travel from Airport to hotel and for visiting various place of interest throughout our stay. Best to purchase a SmartTrip card and top up as needed during your stay. Never had any problems navigating the system, much smaller than London Underground and a lot cleaner! Felt safe too, though never used at night.

Easy to find your way around. Good facilities. The metro is a good option considering it is a few dollars compared to a taxi that is at least five times the price for the same distance!

Well on one side this is an old part of the DC infrastructure, and seems like it has parts that are broken all of the time. But removes the hassle of parking, and the expense. The newest flower of DC is the parking meters, and they are everywhere - which used to be free as we. Get the metro card pass for convenience- but be careful on loading to it. There are default additions of $$.

We wanted to take the subway from the DC area to Arlington. Wow was this dificult. It required us asking the woman iin the ticket booth how to do it. She came out and helped with the machine. Without it, we are not sure if we could have gone where we wanted. For one way trip, it could be expensive, not like subways where I am from. You need to know exactly where your going. The subway clean and very decent inside
