This is a great place of DC to stay and visit with all their museums and WONDERFUL restaurants. We hardly left the Penn Quarter area.

I visited several museums in this area and logically, stopped in some chain shops and unique restaurants for a bite to eat. What surprised me everywhere was how friendly the people were, unlike here in the UK.

The streets are large and you feel safe to walk, like most of the areas in central Washington. You have lots of points of interest here or some 1, 2 miles walk further away. We chose to stay across the river on both occasions, where is equally beautiful and close due to good transport links, yet if I chose to stay in DC probably this would be my preferred area.

Once not a particularly safe or welcoming area, the Penn Quarter now is buzzing with restaurants representing many national cuisines. It's both interesting fast food and expensive good. It has a fair number of retail shops and it is in close proximity to the National Mall and many of Washington's museums and monuments. A good location to walk around, but its former Chinatown aura unfortunately is pretty much dissipated. Can still see signs in Chinese, but not much.

This is a concentrated area of nice restaurants of all types to serve the business lunch/dinner crowd but also has plenty of options for tourists. Plenty of things to do for tours as well as hole int hew all restaurants near high end restaurants. Feels like it stays open and active much longer than Georgetown at night.
