Owner description: Popular biking trail in Lanesboro, Minn.

A perfect day for riding on this trail, which follows along the river. We started at Harmony and rode down to Lanesboro, about a 24 (?) mile ride, mostly downhill. Parts of the trail had restored prairie along the edge which added to the trip. There are kiosks in places along the trail that dispense air and offer a few tools. The beginning location in a small park also had a couple of amusing art installations. The trail has wooded and open sections, wooden bridges, and long downhill portions. Really enjoyed this ride. It was perfect for middle aged folks out for a day pedal.

Made a special trip just to ride this trail after research and reading reviews. We were not disappointed in the least. We dropped a vehicle in Whalan and rode from Fountain east approximately 16.5 easy miles. This was the best part of our plan as the first 5 miles were downhill! We literally had to lightly pedal only twice over that span. The scenery couldn't be more beautiful. Rolling farmland, forest, and bluffs add to the frequent river views. The trail is extremely well maintained with picnic benches every mile and log shelters. The bicycle epicenter was in the quaint, lovely town of Lanesboro. Plenty of shops, cafes, and bars to satisfy every taste. Strangely though, this town seems to have a "fly issue". The stockyards are just two blocks from the center of town, so there seems to be an overabundance of flies in every place we stopped. I wonder if it was the time of year, or a constant irritation. Regardless, we thoroughly enjoyed this trip and plan to return next year.
Attention Road Bikers...Highway 16 from La Crescent west offers little traffic, wide shoulders, smooth pavement, and lovely rolling terrain!

We had a beautiful weekend to ride the trails, we stayed in Lanesboro and although I was leary of the ride out to Rushford because of distance it was a really easy and smooth ride. The path between Peterson and Rushford was a little bumpy and rough, but still rideable.

Most of the trail was a lovely view of the Root River & stone bluffs along with farm homes and interesting barns. Except for a rough few miles to Rushford, the trail was a smooth, new surface for the miles we traveled. We appreciated having very few road crossings and the new bridges were great too!

Yeah, it sounds a little grandiose, but we really enjoyed our day on this lovely bicycle (mostly) trail. Just enough hills to get your heart racing once in awhile without having to fear a full cardio event, great variety of surroundings, and well maintained. I even won the "How many bridges have we crossed?" contest with my wife. What a perfect day!! We are big fans of the Munger Trail near Duluth, and this is its equal. Well done folks!
