“Wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2012

I stay here routinely when I am in Picton for work. I would rate the hosts as the best I have encountered, very helpful, welcoming and go out of their way to ensure your stay is the best it can be. I have just about stayed in every room and they are all off a high standard.

My husband and I took time out to have a quiet holiday break in Picton. We booked a luxury king unit which was very nice and spacious with a spa bath. I liked the fact that even though it was a motel, the rooms were serviced daily and the staff friendly and helpful. The location to shops, restaurants and cafes was ideal with everything within 5-10mins walk. It was just unfortunate that our room backed onto the railway line and we heard every train come and go to the ferry (including late and night and early morning) and were also woken in the early hours by the car rental place next door washing their cars! No amount of double glazing or ear plugs could block this out! So unless you can sleep through anything, I would recommend getting a room away from the west side. I can't fault the hotel facilities, cleanliness and comfortable bed!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the railway tracks!

My husband and I spent 3 nights here, 7 weeks into our 10-week trip to NZ. We chose to stop here in part to check out the wineries, also as a stopover en-route back to the North Island. The town is lovely, with a beautiful port and public grounds as well as a lovely souvenir and artifact market when cruise-ships are in town, (as many towns do).
We arrived early, before check-in time, but were able to park our car in their secure off-road carpark and go walk just about everywhere in town before we checked-in. The Motel is just at the end of High Street to make it a quiet place to rest, away from the other "tourists" milling about town.
We chose a King Studio unit, which was perfect for two for 3 nights. Any longer and we'd probably want a one-bedroom unit, but the one we chose was very well-appointed. The bed was extremely comfortable, with a good choice of pillows (very important to me!). The linens were crispy fresh, the towels white and fluffy and the unit serviced daily and sanitized to perfection. All units are air-conditioned. There was a kitchenette in our unit, well-equipped for our needs; the larger units have full kitchens; there is a BBQ for guests' use and a one washer-and-dryer 3 x $1 coin lauderette. As well, an iron and board in our unit. SKY-TV and reasonably-priced Internet. We also had a small balcony facing West, with 2 chairs and a table. The windows are all double-glazed and plentiful; a lovely cross-breeze from the front to back very welcome on a not-too-hot day. The double-glazing proved very welcome for the 3 x daily trains running in-and-out of town, but there is practically no traffic at all at night on this cross-roads out of town, so a sound sleep is guaranteed. The bathroom, although small, was first-rate, with heated towel-rack, heat lamp and large shower.
If you're like me, the most important qualities are a good sleep and an immaculate place. The Broadway Motel had both, as well as very helpful and professional owners and staff as well as a friendly resident cat as a bonus...

Room Tip: Well-situated, almost brand-new, modern and ultra-comfortable place to rest.

We stayed here for one night and could walk everywhere in Picton - very handy for pickup for the Sounds air flight out next day. Pleasant and helpful staff, comfortable bed and amenities

Very nice hotel at the top of Picton. About ten minutes from the ferry. Does not serve breakfast but there is a supermarket across the street, where the foreigner meets NZ prices! Close to restaurants, the train and very good staff. Free computer in the office, but charge for wifi.
