One of the most icónics buildings in Riga, it’s worth a visit. Although it is usually crowded, it’s worth a visit.

A lovely building in the centre of the Old Town, the House of the Blackheads was closed when we were there, but there is a board outside explaing its history and that of the Tallinn Brotherhood of Blackheads, established in 1399.
Fabulous red, green and gold door.
Great to see from the outside but I don’t think it’s worth the money it cost to go inside. Does provide you with background to the use of the building and the Blackheads and you get too see the main hall.
This is somewhat smaller and less ornate to its better known Riga counterpart, but the building served the same function nevertheless as headquarters for the organisation which bears its name. Although it is not open to the public, it is worth a stop no doubt to take a picture.
Nice place for taking pictures in front of the excellent decorative door and where concerts are performed.
This central structure, completely destroyed by German, then Russian bombing in/after WW2, has been restored in detail and offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval culture, with a twist. The House was and is really a social benevolent club, started by a group of male traders as early as 1500AD who, as our guide said; traveled afar, were not married, had opulent tastes and curated wealth and art in honor of St Maurice, an important and venerated black man in early Christianity. Am I the ONLY person to think this was an early gay mens club? Color me wrong, bit the parallells are fascinating. DO go visit, it is a lovely destination. Tallinn is such a cool city.
