The good:

- In the old town, very close to central square (not that anything is very far from it, as it is a petite town!). The hotel is 10-15 mins walk to the train station and 20-25 mins to the coach station or ferry terminals, each at a fairly brisk pace.

- Clean, presentable hotel and friendly staff. It felt safe. As reception is on the second floor, incomers can bypass it via the staircase, but access to the rooms is restricted by a card entry system at the entrance to the corridor on each floor (as well as individual rooms themselves).

- Cavernous, comfortable, clean room (ours was on the 4th floor overlooking the street (*)) with two tables, settee and three comfortable chairs, double bed with two bedside cabinets

- Good size bathroom with very large, deep bath (if you like that sort of thing!), hairdryer and soap/shampoo provided by dispenser on the wall.

- Facilities: TV, mini fridge; small safe; large floor fan (no a/c)

(*) Ear-plugs provided! I read some complaints of noise from the Labor night club on the street directly below our room, but we didn't experience noise problems ourselves (perhaps it's worse on lower floors). The room has inner and outer glazing and the inner windows were double glazed. Combined they provided acceptable sound-proofing.

The not so good (all relatively minor, though):

- Breakfast buffet well presented but very limited selection (I'm sure they would offer a wider selection if more space were available; my top-tip to the hotel would be to devote the back wall to the buffet as well, so that you can expand the range of food options (even if that meant sacrificing a breakfast table or two). You should also cycle the foods on offer to improve variety.

- No a/c (fan provided was okay but squeaked when oscillating!). Roomn can get very warm.

- TV reception poor: we sporadically received BBC News and English language programmes on other local channels, but it was mostly a fruitless endeavour!

- WIFI reception in room unreliable (frequent signal drops)

All in all, it was a convenient and pleasant stay and a good base for getting out and about in Tallinn.

Room Tip: High level or inward-facing room may be quieter (although we personally didn't experience any - see other reviews)

Okay--so the room isn't going to be a 4 Star hotel with satin sheets, flower petals, incense, turn down service and a full spa, it is a basic room with clean beds, clean bathroom, and a shower with great water pressure! There is also an easy to use in-room safe for your valuables and passports. We were a group of 3 (with our 18 year old son) and the price was great for such a huge room. There is a on-your-honor mini-fridge with room to put your own stuff in it and a kiosk around the corner that sells snacks and drinks for ultra cheap (try finding a Coke for 0.9 Euros or a pint of ale for 1.90 Euro anywhere) The breakfast was excellent fare designed for general western palates with some local flare thrown in. The staff is extraordinary--very helpful and always smiling. We needed to store luggage before our 6 p.m. ship to Stockholm and not only did they graciously keep our luggage safe and sound but also arranged our taxi without us even asking. Best of all is the location--literally. Taxi can drop you off 30 meters from the door and you're in the hotel in less than 2 minutes ready to explore. (it's in Old Town--pedestrian only area). From there you can explore all of Old Town easily on foot. Some people may complain about the locals hangout just across the narrow street where guys are drinking a few beers and singing a lot of Cat Stephens songs...close the windows and you can't here them--and we were on the alley overlooking them. Would definitely stay here again--no question. I am recommending this hotel to all of my friends and family.

Room Tip: I imagine a courtyard room would cut down on the street noise.

Hestia Maestro ...our room 406 was quite a long room. It had a bar fridge we didn’t used, a Safe....
Did not have the best decor but it was comfortable. The location to the Old Town is good..in walking distance to restaurants ,information office...Town Square and the historical Old Town.
Outside the information office free guided walking tours were given. Which was very informative and well worth the effort.

Breakfast cereals, toast and limited hot food, cold meats and cheese.

You can't beat the location or price on this fabulous hotel in the heart of the old town. Don't try to save 30 Euros by getting a room 5 blocks away stay in the center of town so you don't have to commute. The room was comfortable, clean, and quiet with breakfast included. The food wasn't fabulous or the coffee but still okay for your morning start.

We booked this hotel under the name Hestia Hotel Maestro, so it seems the name has changed. The hotel is right in the heart of the city center but very quiet. We were pleasantly surprised by our room, which was absolutely huge. Everything was spotless and the bed was quite comfy. The breakfast room was kind of cramped, but there was a good selection of hot and cold foods. We were very pleased with our stay.
