When i decided to stay for the weekend in Parnu, nothing seemed to become a big problem. I found this neat hostel on the web, made a reservation and around the appointed time i arrived to the location having nothing in mind but a nice weekend holiday on the Estonian seashore. But what it resulted in was a complete disaster. First of all, an important thing a traveler should take into consideration is that there is no option to pay by credit card in this hostel so be sure to bring cash otherwise you will probably face the same awful situation i got into (see below). So to cut a long story short, this is what happened during the night. At 6 a.m. we were obtrusively waken up by the hostess and her husband who poured water (!!!!!) on our faces. Then they started shouting at us in very rude words (swearing is just not the word to describe what i heard about myself that damn morning) as if we made a serious mess or something even worse and finally commanded that we pay (as said, we couldn’t do it upon arrival cause it was late in the night and there was no opportunity to pay with a card) and be gone at once (once again: it was at six o'clock in the morning!!!). We had to walk 1 km under the rain to the closest cash-machine to withdraw money but even after we paid for the stay the avalanche of insults (including even some NATIONALISTIC REMARKS!!!!) didn’t stop. It was worse than my worst nightmare, seriously. So we had to pack our things and go away 2 hours before the earliest coach to Tallinn departs (no need to say that we had to spend those 2 hours under the rain just walking the desert streets of the city). And now about the roots of such an unmannerly conduct of the hostess. The problem was that on the 1st evening in the city we met 3 young Estonians (2 boys and a girl of about 20 years old, all very decent-looking) who said that they couldn’t find any place to sleep that night cause all the hostels were booked out for the weekend (and I now out of my own experience that it was 100% true). We felt sorry for them and suggested that they spend a night in our room and in the morning we fix everything with the hostess – by which I mean that we pay for all 5 of us. We were absolutely sure it would pose no serious problem and by no means were we going to cheat on the hostess somehow. But how short-sighted of us! I need to mark out that our guests were quiet and fell asleep almost directly after we came back (which was about 2 a.m.). I still don’t know what made the hostess so mad and how did she actually find out there are extra guests in our room, but she opened the door with her spare key and did what she did. When I tried to calm her saying we were ready to pay for the extra guests (you know, you have to pay for any good deed you’re doing) she started screaming with explicit that we hadn’t yet paid for our own stay so we either pay now or she calls the police. You know the rest of the story well. I can admit that we were not right on our side too, letting strangers in our room, but did it deserve such a cruel pay-off? So you have my advice: refrain from staying at this place. It’s worse than a Nazi concentration camp and the stay there left a terrible feeling about the whole trip.
