I've been living for some months in Kaunas and I experienced quite a good amount of local restaurant and pubs. The choice so far was limited between international style food (even crappy as MC Donalds) or 'post Soviet Lithuanian food': mainly the choice was between some modern fusion/international cuisine with also great opstions or Šaltibarščiai and Cepelinai.
But last night I found this new Lithuanian Pub and I must admit the experience has been surprising. Expecting to have the usual Lithuanian food, I found instead a really different type of cuisine. The owners have made a deep research of what it was the food panorama in Kaunas between the two wars, when the city was the capital of the country and one of the most culturally sparkling center of Europe. The result is a surprising varied cuisine with flavors of the European tradition tuned through the Lithuanian culture. The menu here is various and interesting and it is really worth to try both for a snack as for a complete meal. The place itself is an adaptation in modern key of the Art Decò style typical of the period, recalling with interesting images of Kaunas' main historical buildings the splendors of that period.
Definitely a place to pay a visit to!
