Owner description: The former Turkish mosque, built in the late 16th century, now serves as a Catholic church featuring a grand cupola, prayer niches and keel-arch windows.

The exterior is remarkable.
Go inside only if you have look to shelter from rain or have excess time.
The church has a strange architecture due to its origins, but is uninteresting from the point of view of decoration or beauty.
Unlike any other church, access is through a cavernous underground.
The church is divided in two symmetrical circular chambers.
Nothing attractive inside.

The combination of the building having the shape of a Mosque with many oriental ornaments still in place, but being a church is stunning. In addition the huge organ was being played when I was there which gave a magnificent acoustic experience. The painted dome of the main room is very beautiful. Many of the tombstones in the basement carry german names and text adding to the multicultural flair. Perfect staff they were so kind and helpful!

This place is an architectural gem. Beautiful interior design that preserves Ottoman simplicity at its best, but also superb statues of Jesus, the Virgin and various saints. The preservation has been top notch, one can still see a few Allahu Akbar frescoes on the walls. I could spend hours here, marveling at the light that filters through the stained windows.

With a strong recommendation from the local tourist office, I climbed a slight incline on the wide pedestrian plaza to the imposing domed building. After paying the admission, the self guided tour went through multiple rooms of the crypt, now used for interments. The climb up stairs takes you into the double sanctuary, with altars dividing the circular space. Be sure to also climb up to the organ loft for a different perspective.

Very nice church with christian metods in mosque. There are old turkish motives in the church. The acustic of the church is also very good.
