You shall not leave this square out of your strolling route in Gyor. VEry nicely renovated sqaure, the main square in the city, with beautiful buildings, funny fountains, good restaurant at the corner, street musicians, sculptures.
There are always passengers, chatting, eating outside the restaurant, or at the ice-cream shop, enjoying the sunshine.
The main square of Gyor, Szechenyi Square is ringed by historic buildings, hotels, restaurants with sidewalk seating, and interesting shops. The Baroque square and the surrounding buildings have recently been renovated and a stroll around the square is an excellent way to begin an exploration of the Old Town of Gyor.
The Column of St. Mary built by Bishop Kollonich of Gyor was erected to celebrate the the recapture of Buda from the Turks. On the day of our visit children were enjoying the "interactive" walk through water fountain despite the overcast sky.
When I visited in June this square was ringing with the sound of children having fun as they played in one of the water features. Definitely worth a stroll through.
The Baroque square is home to Mary's column, Benedictine church and other historical buildings. The square has recently been renovated with fresh paving, a walk-through water fountain and the buildings around it have been given a face lift making it a beautiful place to visit. There are several restaurants to one side of the square and it is a great place to relax and unwind.
It is Gyor's main square and is definitely worth a visit.
