A beautiful little monument in the 'Pest' side of Budapest. Great for a photo, but there is no information explaining the story behind this statue.

The statue of Imre Nagy is very moving: he looks humble, pensive, almost sad. The statue is a most fitting tribute to him and the Hungarian Rising; what was and what could have been. Climbing over the bridge between Liberty Sq and the House of Parliament reminds us of the struggle previous generations had to contend with so we can live our lives in the freedom we can take for granted.

This is a very nice statue on Parliament square, and thus easy to find. There is no information panel nearby, so you will need to look it up in your guidebook or the internet. However, it is a memorial to the prime minister of Hungary during the 1956 revolution, who was executed by Soviet army brought in to bring Hungary back into the fold.

This statue is in Parliament square and is well worth a visit - it’s great to learn who the man was and it was Imre Nagy who was the Prime Minister of Hungary on two occasions. his second term was during the revolution in 1956. His Government was not Soviet backed and his government ended in this revolution and he was tried and executed and placed in an unmarked grave. His name could not be mentioned during the communist era and he became a symbol of freedom. 1n 1989 he was reburied and a crowd of 200000 gathered at Heroes square for his funeral. So a poignant place to remember the struggles of people of this country and also to get a photograph alongside Nagy on the man on the bridge.

Just a small sculpture worth a visit if you have time. Quite fun to take a different selfie here! A small bridge with a person standing on it.
