stayed for 3 nights, and read reviews before booking, to my surprise, i found people dont even give honest reviews on trip advisor? last 5 reviews spoke of this place okish, but none the less it far from being an OK place to stay
hotel is easily reachable from main HBF and airport and yeah it's the heart of city so perfect location.. freedom bridge is on walking distance so are other places, including liberty bridge, chain bridge even, castle hill.
points to be noted
1- hotel is very old, infact it's a very old building transformed in to a hotel
2- floors are wooden and they make so uch of noise
3- life inside the hotel seems to be from 1850, 3 people with bags cant fit and its too slow
4- i booked a family room which is supposed to be the biggest and most lavish, but phew, the lounge had windows with out proper shades, and in hungry sunshine starts at 6 9 ( in summers) impossible to even sleep peacefully since sun rips room and people apart
5- staff very unfriendly, one of the staff members verbally abused my child for which i had to argue , what's the point any way
6- breakfast is served in the morning and its average
7- wash room was amazingly, super BAD... door even properly closed and one has to take care of it, since locks of the rooms in general are not working
KINDLY KNOW WHAT U ARE BOOKING... ONLY IF U DONT WISH TO SLEEP WELL CHOOSE THIS HOTEL ELSE I SUGGEST BETTER OPTIONS ARE NEAR BY LIKE HOTEL MENINGER ETC

I was deeply disappointed by this hotel, they have such nice reviews and in the end that wasn't my experience at all.
I got a single room, with a very old, noisy and small (only 80 cm wide) bed which seemed almost like a divan (couch-bed). The windows had no dark curtains (only some very transparent ones) and the balcony was common for two different rooms (no physical separation of any kind between them) which prevented us to leave the windows open and allowed the guest from the other room to see everything we were doing in the room.
Several items needed to be fixed, for example loose water-tap handlers, broken wall power sockets, etc ... Also there was no bedside table or free power socket to charge electronic devices. Only the wifi was working in good conditions (easy connect, average speed).
They also have never changed the soap, so I had to spare and use the same small one for my three nights stay. On the third day they also forgot to leave the hands towel (removed the old, but no fresh one left in its place), I just had to use the bath towel for everything. Although all this, the room and the bathroom both looked clean.
Breakfast room also had old furniture (not quaint) and the space is very small specially in the room that has the buffet. Quality and diversity of the breakfast choices was average. Reception works 24h, but the front door is always closes, one has to ring the belt and wait for them to open it. The entire building is old, has received some cheap and unattended restoration.
Some of the staff members and friendly, but others are not. The first can speak good english, other can't, so probably that's why they don't look so friendly. Thou I had no problem with any of the staff. Location was the only plus point of this hotel, in Kalvin area, near the Szabadsag hid (Liberty bridge) and not that far away from the city center.
For the price I paid (same as in Berlin) this hotel was not a good option. If it was cheaper, maybe it could be OK for a small one or two night stay.

Room Tip: Never get the individual rooms

24/7 reception, helpful and welcoming staff, ready to provide sightseeing advice and the best way to travel to see around the city of Budapest.
The rooms are spacious and very clean. So are the bathrooms. Beds are comfortable and noise is minimum.
Breakfast is decent and tasteful.
Location is fantastic. Close to Liberty bridge and the Great Market Hall. You can walk to almost all popular attractions from this hotel.

We stayed for nearly a week in Kalvin House Hotel near the Danube, enjoyed the room with a balcony and a huge bathroom. Nice buffet breakfast with juice, coffee, many kinds of bread, rolls, sliced meat, cheeses, yoghurt, boiled eggs, jams, etc.. Friendly staff made every effort to help with requests or questions. The room with the balcony faces a pretty backyard, but gets no sun, so it's good for summer when you're trying to avoid the heat, but it's kind of dark. The hotel is on a quiet street so no problem with noise, though it's close to trams. Also across the street from a Tesco express, so handy for drinks and snacks. I would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Balcony room quiet but kind of dark. If you like lots of light, pick room facing street.

We stayed at the Hotel Kalvin House for four nights and enjoyed our stay. We were welcomed by a very friendly receptionist; the staff were very helpful throughout our stay, providing information on the cheapest travel options (try the trams!) and the reception has lots of leaflets and 'navi' cards which give you discounts at certain attractions and restaurants.

The room was a very good size with a large comfy bed and lots of wardrobe space. The bathroom was nice; the room came supplied with toiletries, towels and a hairdryer but as mentioned in other reviews, there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room. The only negative about the room was the air-conditioning; there was a unit in the room but we couldn't find a remote to control it.

The hotel serves a continental buffet breakfast which was kept replenished throughout each morning. The breakfast rooms are located next to the reception on the first floor and we were always able to find a table. Just to note, the reception is on the first floor of the building but there is a lift to all floors.

One particular positive of the hotel which I hadn't realised before we went to Budapest is its location. It is down a quiet street about a five-minute walk from the Central Market. In addition, it was a two-minute walk to the Kalvin Metro station and the bus stops for the 100E airport shuttle stops. I would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again!
