Owner description: The world's second-largest synagogue, featuring a room that holds three thousand people, is a center for the large Jewish community of Budapest.

The synagogue itself is good to see but it was the mass graves in the garden that was so moving. There is a small, simple exhibition telling you about the people that died here and it really is something you should see.

Albeit the synagogue is a local landmark, and the stories and history are relevant to the purpose of visiting Budapest. The costs involved, just to enter, take away any real appreciation.
The gift shops were so over priced, it made Disney look like a bargain.
The tours were on top of each other, so there were always five languages being spoken at one time. So you could not hear the tour guide as well.
Forced to wear a skull cap (Yamaka) was a bit over the top as well. I am not Jewish, but have great respect for their culture and ideals. However, to make me wear a yamaka is like making a Jew wear a cross.
The attached museum is overpriced as well, and unless you're Jewish, or can read Hebrew, it is a waste of time.
The burial grounds outside in the rear of the synagogue are hallowed ground and to visit them is sobering and will leave an indelible mark on your conscious. Like visiting a concentration camp, it will move you. They also charge you more money to visit them.

A stunning building well worth a visit even if just to look at the roof.

it is a very good historical place to visit and know good information about the history of Jews in Hungary, the artifacts inside the synagogue are well kept and can give you a good idea about the rituals of Jewish belief.
