The reception was welcoming and helpful. This place is an easy walk from the train or bus stations which are side by side. It is also an easy walk into the centre of the city which means that it is in a very good location.
There is no lift and all the rooms are up a broad curved staircase in this historic building. Our room was clean, bright and adequate in size with a bench at the end of the bed for two bags. The bed was two single mattresses and doonas on a double bed but it was comfortable. The bathroom was quite small but the shower itself was a reasonable size, by European standards. There was no safe, fridge or tea making. There was an air-conditioner.
There was a pleasant restaurant down stairs. The breakfast spread was adequate if modest, think an urn and instant coffee.
If travelling to Zagreb, both bus and train are readily available. We chose train and the outside of our train was dirty and graffiti covered which meant that I could not enjoy watching the countryside. However I believe that the border crossing is easier by train as the officials come aboard and pass through the train stamping passports while bus travellers have to get off and walk through the border to Croatia.More
