My wife and I spent our 28th anniversary at Villa Bled and loved it. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are large and comfortable and they offer free rowboats and bicycles to use on the lake and around town. A great place to stay.

We stayed 2 nights at Vila Bled as a part of our Backroads cycling tour of Italy and Slovenia and it was beautiful. The location right on Lake Bled was perfect. The cycling in Slovenia is TOUGH, so having the ability to jump in the lake after a day of riding was wonderful. Our room, I should say suite, was very large and comfortable. I appreciated having a living room where we could spread out our gear. If you are lucky enough to get to Bled and stay here, be sure and visit the very large conference room on floor 1. The room was Tito's theater room and has a very interesting fresco depicting the rise of communism in Yugoslovia (and the rise of Tito). We ate dinner at the restaurant one night and sat outside with the stunning view of the lake - the food was fantastic.

Considering its location, potential and history, it should be upgraded to a five star hotel ASAP. Yet original furniture of early sixties and TV sets of late eighties give the hotel a very special charm. Nothing (except for the lounge bar) has basically changed from the days of emperor Tito, you can feel the tensions among global and local political rivals still lingering in the air, see angry generals marching down the corridors... The charm is unique. One can only wonder what happens when the current rental to a local tycoon expires in the autumn. Most likely the impoverished state will have to sell and God knows what kind of a modern design hotel the new owners will create instead,

Hotel has its own park down to the lake, facing the famous island church and the castle. A sizeable parkling lot. Reception is helpful and efficient. Lifts a joke. Rooms ranging from midsize to huge in their sizes. There are two suites to die for, both having their own verandas, the larger probably part of former Tito's quarters (and the Yugoslav regent before that), the other part of the visiting head of state. Old carpets fit perfectly into the atmsophere, bathrooms seem to have been renovated not so long ago. Note that the hotel offers no modern amenities like swimming pool, fitness, wellness and similar. You have your lake beach, possibly the best part of it, which amply compensates during the two summer months. Otherwise you can enjoy a lovely walk around the lake, should take you less than an hour.

The restaurant has had its bad days. The previous tenant, a large local hotel chain with rather poor expertise in high class tourism, belatedly hired a top chef just before they were surprisingly replaced by their rivals. These brought in a young guy with experience from the likes of Ducasse and Noma. He has established himself in a few years as unarguably one of the top 10 cooks in Slovenia. Definitely one should try his tasting menu when enjoying the benefits of spending a few days in the hotel. Better even, the young roosters leading the top three restaurants at Bled are organizing exchange during an out-of-season visit, whereby you have the opportunity to try each one of the restaurants during your stay. Recommended!

Prices are definitely more than bearable considering the entire hotel experience. If you take one of the two recommended suites, you will truly be surprised.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the suites with verandas facing the island.

This is a first-class hotel in a magnificent and still rather undiscovered place. The hotel itself is a perfectly restored chateau replete with incredible marble and large, beautiful rooms. The bonus is that the hotel is right on Lake Bled, which is delightful for swimming and sunning. Get to Slovenia before it's discovered and carve out a couple of days for this hotel (followed by a day or two in the capital, Ljubljana, a happening place).

This hotel exudes grandeur, from the red carpet arrival to the large suites. There are probably more modern hotels, but the location and the facilities (hotel guests can use the hotel's rowing boats, to row to Bled Island, and bikes) make this a great choice. Breakfast and dinner are served in a beautiful cloistered outside area with an amazing view overlooking the lake and the service is great.

The only small points that could be improved would be that the shower in our room was very short - for some reason it was mounted mid wall, and the safe was pretty small. Otherwise it was fantastic.
