The Nicholas Residence Hotel is a unique, charming hotel on the 3rd floor of a building located in the heart of Prague, near the foot of the Charles Bridge. There is a tram stop directly in front of the hotel, ATMs downstairs and across the street. Great little restaurants and cafes are all around. There are only 12 or so rooms in the hotel. The maid has no English but is very helpful - she'll do your laundry if you leave it on your bed! Complimentary bottle of wine and snacks in the fridge. All the rooms have loft bedrooms - rustic exposed beams make the rooms very homey. There is no A/C, but with windows left open and fans on the rooms cool very well. There is some tram/street noise throughout the night, but if you close some of the windows that noise is dissipated. There is a Nespresso machine with a full stock of selections, and breakfast offers cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, juice, bread, cereals, eggs, and fruit. The staff members who sit at the reception desk on the first floor are all very friendly and helpful. Great find!

We were greeted by a very welcoming young man who actually took time to take us to our room and show us where most of the main attractions were on a map. The room was actually a small apartment on the top floor with a good sized bedroom and a sitting room with a kitchen area in the corner. Lovely views over the square and room had beautiful wooden beams with a mezzanine area with another bed. There was complimentary wine and canned drinks plus crisps, nuts and fruit. A buffet breakfast was available on the landing where you could help yourself to fresh bread, croissants, cheese, cold meets etc. and you ate it in your room. No cooked breakfast but that was fine with us and all included in room rate. It was only 5 minutes to the Charles Bridge and about 15 minutes up to the beautiful Prague Castle. There were several restaurants in the square and in nearby streets. Location was fantastic, we walked everywhere. My only complaint was there was no English breakfast tea, just flavoured and specialist teas,so take some with you! This hotel is perfect for a city break in such a beautiful city, I would definitely stay there again. There was no air conditioning but you could open lots of windows. There were fans in all rooms however keeping windows open at night meant it could sometimes be a little noisy but not enough to really worry about.

Room Tip: Top floor had the better views plus we had a corner apartment, no. 4, overlooking the square.

Last week I stayed at Nicholas with two of my friends. It was absolutely wonderful.

The Room:
Each of us had our own rooms (two bedrooms and a loft). I thought the loft might get hot because it was a very warm day out, but with the provided fan and multiple windows cooled the space down well. Our last day, I could even see the fireworks that were being shot off of Petrin from my window.

The Amenities:
Breakfast is provided in the hall with a variety of bread, meats, fruits, cereal, eggs and juice/coffee. The minibar in the fridge is free of charge. You get a bottle of wine to welcome you on top of that! Slippers, Robes and Washing Machine (no dryer FYI, but you can get a drying rack from reception).

The Staff:
The staff were nothing but wonderful and accommodating. Whether we needed the wifi reset, an iron, luggage storage or information on where to find the post office, the staff were more than happy to help.

The Location:
You really can't get a better location for walking the city. Mala Strana is a great home base. You are in sight of Karlov Most (Charles Bridge) and old town in one direction and a 15 to 20 minute walk up to the Castle/Strahov Monastery/Petrin. It is also located at a main tram stop (malastranska) which can connect you to all of the above places if you want to opt out of walking.

I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Loft in Room 1 gives view of Petrin.

This "residence" hotel is located within the historic Grömling palace, built in 1786. The street level contains a Starbucks which was once the historic Cafe Radetsky, frequented by Prague writers such as Jan Neruda. The Grömling palace sits in the shadow of the San Nicholas church, where Mozart once played the organ when he was in Prague, and today evening organ concerts are performed. Around the corner is Nerudova street, home to many shops, restaurants (including U Laudy), and embassies, and which leads uphill to Prague Castle. Tram Line 22 is adjacent, and it's only a short walk to the Charles Bridge.

The hotel? Delightful and quaint, consisting of only nine rooms (suites, actually) on the top floor (fourth level) of the palace. Suites vary in size from two to four rooms, plus sleeping lofts. The is no air conditioning, but there are plenty of windows (street and atrium) to provide good ventilation. The desk clerks were helpful in assisting us get oriented. We stayed only four nights, but wish we could have stayed much longer.

Room Tip: All suites have windows to the square, but vary in size.

I came to visit Prague this past weekend and I stayed at the Nicholas Hotel Residence. First of all, the lady at the reception, Maria was very welcoming and showed us how to get around on the map. Second, we booked the two bedroom apartment and it was fit for purpose with 2 rooms on the main floor and a roof with two beds.

Overall, the whole experience was wonderful. There is a starbucks in the same building as the hotel and a couple of coffee shops and restaurants opposite of the hotel. The old town is only a few steps away over the bridge.

I would recommend staying in this hotel if you are visiting Prague as it is a good value for money and is in a great location in the city.
