The easiest way to get to the apartment is via arranged taxi. Dean, the apartment owner, arranged for us to be met by a driver at the train station and it was by far the least stressful way to manage a strange city with kids and luggage (cost 15 Euros).
The apartment is on the 4th floor of a really old building so there is no lift. Luckily, you only have to carry the luggage up once. And overall, it is definitely worth it. We loved the character of the whole apartment from the window latches to the wooden beams. The kids spent the first hour exploring every nook and cranny and loved the hidey hole they found beyond the stairs, calling it their cubby house. Though we did have to designate a no-go area for the kids one one side of the steep stairs as it was a bit dangerous for them.
The main bedroom is roomy and has a large bed for two and we wheeled the two single beds from the lounge room into the main bedroom so we could stay up later than the kids. I think the beds are normally chairs and are fine for kids but a bit uncomfortable for adults.
The bathroom was very clean and we loved the character of it. The kids really enjoyed a spa bath on one of the evenings. The kitchen was also quite good. It was clean and had a reasonable range of equipment. A toaster would have been perfect but we managed with the grill in the oven.
The wifi connection was excellent and we enjoyed watching the World Cup on the tv.
The only drawback was the lack of pillows. There was one pillow each and they were those pathetic European ones with a complete lack of substance. I think I had to fold mine up about four times to get any support out of it.
One of the best things was the excellent location. You could hike up the stairs to the castle, or stroll downhill to the Charles Bridge and into the old town. Because it wasn't in the old town, it was actually relatively quiet at night, despite the various bars and restaurants nearby. One of the quirkiest things was that at 10am every morning, we'd open our bedroom windows as the castle turret just a few metres away came alive with a trumpet fanfare!
The apartment was also really easy to book via Tripadvisor. Dean, the owner, was excellent about keeping in touch, answering questions and offering suggestions. He made it all incredibly easy which really takes the stress out of organising a trip to a strange city with kids.
Great apartment and a really nice visit to Prague.
