I'll start from positive facts:
a. Location is excellent! Very close to main attractions, tram stations just near the hotels door.
b. The breakfast - good for Prague hotels.
c. All the personal speak english.

But, here come the negative facts:
a. Our booking was for 2 adults and 6 years old child. We get the small double room without any options to extra bed. After i came back to reception, they gave us other room and rollaway bed for extra charge of about 15 euro per night. It's OK to get extra charge for extra bed but i expected to see it during booking process in final price.
b. The parking - the hotel price is 31 euro (!!!) per parking day. In public parking just near the hotel door the price is 28 euro. So, in dozens hotels we were all over the world, the parking price is about 10-15 euros per day as a part of service given to customers.
c. The room condition - you can see the pictures below.
d. The room comfort - i don't know who was the designer, but the room completely uncomfortable. You have enter the shower and get out the shower nude, because you don;t have place inside to put showel or your clothes. The toilet door has about 2-3 cm openings in all sides. So you are sitting inside the room. Very very confusing and uncomfortable.

Dear Mr Vatenmacher,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our hotel.

Per our hotel policy kids are free of charge if they share a parent’s bed - you were requesting extra bed so the fee was applied to your bill. However, on your voucher is confirmed one double room with one or two beds - I see nothing about an extra bed. If you book a triple room you will definitely receive it immediately.

Public parking cost 1, 60 EUR per 1 hour and you have to pay from 8 am to 12 am - so total is 27,20 EUR for parking on the street for one day and it is from Monday - Sunday. We offer to our client's secure parking in the underground garage for 31 EUR where we can guarantee them 100% care for their cars. We do not push clients to park in a garage and it is their decision if they want to park on the street or in a garage but most of the clients prefer to pay 3,80 EURO more and leave their car in the secured area. As a hotel is situated in the historic building we are not obligated to build our own underground garage or courtyard parking so we cooperate with hotel Boscolo since 2006 and price is stable for 12 years.

We are a design hotel with 80 rooms with 24 different types of design. Therefore it is understandable that not all of them suit everyone. If that was the case you should have come to reception to ask for the room change.

We are disappointed that your visit did not meet your expectations and we hope that you will give us another opportunity to show you our improvements.

Mr. Vatenmacher, if you will plan your next trip please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Best regards,
Petra Nekorancova

Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of positives with this hotel, but probably several negatives which is why three stars is appropriate.

I enjoyed our stay here. The bed was a very comfy king-sized double, our room (514 on the fifth floor) came with a bathtub and Juliet balcony and generally we were in an area of the hotel that was quiet and we remained undisturbed. The layout of the bedrooms are slightly strange, though. The wash basin area is located in between both the separate toilet and bathtub areas, directly facing a wardrobe and in front of the cupboard containing the fridge and safe (it will make more sense in photos posted) and it doesn’t seem quite right. But it works and we had no issues really. Speaking of the fridge, the items inside are outrageously priced so don’t even bother.

The staff at the front desk are helpful and friendly and always said something when we headed out or returned back. The catering staff during breakfast time were slightly more muted though. Breakfast itself is a strange one. The standard of food is okay but it’s not world-beating by any stretch of the imagination. The layout of the breakfast area is a little odd and the seating - found in the form of low-level stools or plastic chairs - is a curious one. There isn’t even much available seating either! I think this is trying to show a unique and quirky side to 987 Design but falls a little flat. One more thing: we left one morning to check out some attractions and returned for a break during the afternoon around 15:00 to find our room hadn’t been made up. Not sure if this is normal but it didn’t really bother us - just mentioning in case it bothers other, more easily offended travellers...

Despite this, another positive is that the hotel is not too far from the Old Town Square or other attractions. If you book a hotel without anticipating its location to major sightseeing locations and then complain like some reviews on here, then you’re an idiot. I don’t think it is poorly located. Prague is a large city anyway, so you’re always bound to be doing some form of walking!

So overall, the 987 Design Prague hotel is reasonably good, but does have a few flaws that leave you wondering a bit.
