Owner description: The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

Really, this square is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Crowded of course. Surrounded by restaurants and terraces, we tried several of them and all were very good. One of the things you just have to do while in Prague

Walk through the sublime urban area of Stare Mesto within the Old Town of Prague and look to the sky. You will be surprised to find a seven foot tall sculpture of the world famous psycho-analyst Sigmund Freud hanging from a metal beam above the cobbled streets at your feet. The unusual artwork has proven so popular that it has been exhibited in cities all over the world including Chicago, London and Berlin. Often mistaken for a suicide attempt, the sculpture has also been responsible for several calls to the emergency services since its creation.

The square was decorated for Easter and was very festive. It was beautifully lit at night. The shops were a mix of souvenir shops and some food vendors mainly.

Not sure what the Old Town Square looks like without the christmas market, but the old town square was packed! Tons of people, tons of vendors, tons of festivities and the large christmas tree. I assume without the market, the square is open and allows for better traffic flow.
