This is the only restaurant inside the Strahov Monastery and it is build underground! We found the place by accident and it was the perfect one for a romantic dinner!

Stopped off at the monastery at lunchtime. Sadly the monastery church itself was closed but we 'd heard good reviews about the restaurant.

They do really great home-brewed beers. The "special dark" was lovely but the IPA was probably best of all

To eat we had the onion soup which was lovely and also the goulash with dumplings which was great. We also had cold meat platter which was really nice - ham, salami, pork loin, etc, and they gave us a huge basket of bread to go with it

All in all we had one starter, three main dishes and five beers and it came to just £17

The only disadvantage is that we had to share a table as it's a pretty small place and the people we shaded with smoked throughout the meal. Not ideal but the food and beer were just what we needed on a freezing cold day

If you want to walk there it takes circa 50 mins from the main square in the old town or otherwise get on the number 22 tram

I was fortunate enough to have a break in a tour by Sv. Norbert's. The guide had told us about the beer that is brewed by the monks to the same recipe for centuries, and as it's only available here it was a no brainer and my fiancé and I tried two of the four available brews. I have to say, both were delicious! The darker one had a more subtle delicate flavour, and the lighter one ( sorry I don't remember the names ) was very crisp, fruity and a little bitter. Neither were at all yeasty, which in my books is a good thing. We didn't have the time to try the food, but what I saw on other peoples plates looked appealing. By Czech standards, the beer was expensive ( you can get beer for as little as 75 pence for 500ml) but at £4 for both beers I thought it was reasonable.

Walking up to the hill of Petrin can be hard job therefore a nice restaurant up there is the most welcome. Good food, nice terrace, very good beer. Definitely worth to visit if you happen to be in that neighborhood.
