We live on this mountain...
Before that, we've visited here for 60+ years as children and now, retirees...
We've seen Hon-Dah develop over these many years from childhood to the present....
Currently, we've visited the Casino/Restaurant MANY times for breakfast, lunch, dinner....
.....with family, with guests, or with an occasional large group....
............Morning Buffet, Holiday/Sunday Brunch, or Holiday/Champagne Brunch....
Sometimes, no matter the time or occasion...it's GREAT....OR NOT......
Sometimes the service is great...sometimes, not so much...
Mostly, it's an endearing and convenient stop as we go deeper into the White Mountain / Ft. Apache Reservation....with ALL Her beauteous grandeur and some of America's familiar Southwestern History.
Sorry to be ambiguous.....
.......it's a toss-up.....
Please don't discount this place.....
......you might hit the jackpot.......if you're willing to gamble on the casino/restaurant environment.....for a pretty good meal...
BTW...the hotel accommodations aren't so bad either. Granted, it was several years ago that we stayed a couple nights...but we had absolutely NO complaints.

We were there for the lunch buffet yesterday around 1 pm. The buffet looked messy as food was spilled all over the place.
1. Salad bar was decent but their choice of dressings (3) were all creamy. Oil & vinegar was available but I had to search for the tray.
2. Vegetables were so overcooked they could have been mashed potatoes, they mushed together, felt and tasted like paste.
3. Meats were dry, overcooked and flavorless. My daughter in law wondered how they could ruin a hot dog (for a child).
4. sides were tasteless like they were out of a can. The baked beans & potatoe salad were old.
5. Their was a decent choice for desserts but the ones we had were bettered by frozen pies from the grocery store.

Plates piled up on our table as the server did not clear used plates until we were long waiting for our check and we were putting them on neighboring tables, no one in our group was offered a drink refill.

Dene Apache business at its finest. I am enthralled at seeing my southern Dene relatives doing well. We ordered breakfast, 4.99 was just as good as mine and I upgraded to sausage. Food and service was great. I am proud to see my people doing well.

Went to eat crab legs last Friday night with family, we had an extremely long wait, around 55 minutes. The buffet was good, but use to have a lot more variety, food was good.

I tried the Tuesday night Rib Eye steak special at Indian Pines last week and it proved to me that the restaurant is not like it once was. It used to be very good, but now...the steak had a good flavor but it was overcooked (I ordered "Medium" and it was almost black,) and it was tough and chewy. There was also a lot of gristle in it and I felt like a surgeon cutting out the fat and gristle to get at a morsel of meat. It did come with the salad bar which was very good. They have a nice selection of greens and toppings and a very tasty Blue Cheese dressing. So the salad was the best part of the dinner. It also came with a standard, so-so baked potato and some overcooked vegetables, mostly squash. The service was terrible. The waitress took my order and brought me iced tea, and then she left never to return. I saw her later and she went to another table and talked to those diners for as long as I was there. She even sat down with them! So that ruined what was already a sub-par meal. So Indian Pines is not the worst restaurant I've ever been to, but it's nothing like it was some years ago. To be fair, on holidays like Mother's Day, Christmas and Thanksgiving, they do put on a very good buffet holiday dinner, but on normal days the food is mediocre at best.
