We stayed for five nights as part of a package to travel on the little railways of the Pyrenees (which were excellent). Our room, which was adequate and clean, was on the side of the hotel with a partial sea view and over the hotel entrance. The bathroom was small but worked fine.
We were told there was a charge for wifi (but there wasn't) and were also asked for 20 euros plus 10 euros deposit to use the room safe.
The dining room was noisy and cramped. It was lit like a school dining room and sounded like it too with trolleys trundling around noisily clearing tables. Some of the staff had an attitude problem. The breakfast was reasonable (but no yoghurt or muesli or berries). The evening meal was not good - the dishes weren't labelled so it was pot luck. The sweets appeared to have been mass produced.
The worst problem was loud amplified music coming from the bar which was audible all over the hotel. We had to try to sleep with windows and shutters closed. Even then the loud bass noise was overbearing. This went on each evening until midnight, when the revellers going home made further disturbance. We did complain but the staff were unable to help.
We will not return - ever!

We stayed at this hotel as part of Newmarket's Little Trains of the Pyrenees holiday. The location was excellent, only yards from the beach. The beach and promenade were cleaned every morning. The continental breakfast had a good choice of cold dishes but the cooked dishes may have left some English visitors disappointed. The evening meal was also buffet style with plenty of choice. However I did think the hot food was only lukewarm, but the salad selection and puddings were first rate. The rooms were a bit small but as we were only in them for sleeping that wasn’t a problem. The bathrooms may not have suited everyone as the toilet was a bit close to the sink. Always plenty of hot water. I think all the rooms had a sea view but the ones on the front I believe did suffer from the live music underneath. We didn't have time to use the pool but it looked inviting.

Room tip: Avoid rooms on the front just above the live music.

Little Trains of the Pyrenees
Newmarket Holidays
Montecarlo Hotel
07.09.18 – 12.09.18

The Montecarlo hotel is rated at 3* and really struggles to a 2* category. Rooms and bathrooms are cramped but adequate, (although not nice to sit on the loo with your knees under the sink).

As a coach/tour party with Newmarket Holidays, the hotel treated us like second class citizens. In the dining room we were herded like school children, and made to sit at the back of the restaurant on tables of 10. A request to have a table for 2 was turned down. As a couple we find it very off putting to be forced to make small talk over dinner with people we have nothing in common with. I also wear hearing aids, which do not help in a noisy environment. As the whole restaurant was all the same “self service buffet”, it was even more puzzling why we were herded together. Perhaps the fact we were allocated 3 bottles of wine to 10 people. Would be easier to allocate each couple a bottle of wine, the extra cost on the holiday would be minimal, and then let people choose a table. Can’t really comment on the food, as we ended up eating out.

Room tip: The rooms at the front, suffer noise from the nightly music played on the hotel veranda

Nice enough hotel, but if you intend to come here for a restful break don’t ask for a room with sea view as it is right above live music played every night until midnight; not something that is advertised or given any pre warning.

If you want to have a sea holiday, there are much better places in Spain than Roses. Do not even come here. It is a nightmare. We cancelled our 3 nights reservation at Montecarlo and came back to Barcelona after 16 hours stay. For that price, there are amazing hotels you can find in Spain. You cannot enjoy beauty of Roses at the beach because of overcrowd and noisy speedboats and jet skis. We had a walk on beach at 7:00 in the morning. It was really nice. After 10:00 A.M everywhere becomes like hell. I'll not even make a comment about hotel. Apart from staff and view everything is disaster. Room was dirty, not ergonomic at all. Breakfast is like a joke. I do not understand how those people paid and accepted that breakfast. Thanks god ladies at reception are very friendly. They are so kind and helped us to cancel our reservation.
