After reading Tripadvisor reviews my wife and decided to visit Murphy’s on a Friday date night. It soon became apparent that Murphy’s high ratings say more about the clientele than the establishment. We have visted pubs before and enjoyed it, so it is not that we’ve had unreasonable expectations - but our experience can be summarised in one word - horrible. The fact that Murphy’s needs a “Man Mountain” at the front entrance should have told us everything we needed to know but we were keen to give it a go. The atmosphere inside was as exciting and charming as the dining hall of an old school hostel or FIFO camp, while there was no shortage of questionable characters. The food portions were way too big and the quality well below average. We weren’t even halfway through our meal when workers started clearing furniture next to us to create room for a dance floor, while carrying tables and chairs right past our table - if they want a dancefloor, why not make room before accepting paying dinner guests. We are down to earth people and by no means snobs, but we will never be back - not even if we get it for free.

Great to enjoy a pint of Guinness in a lively pub. This is my favourite watering hole in Mandurah. We called in over the St Patrick’s weekend and the place was steaming, not surprisingly. We ordered Murphy Beef and Guinness pie which my family described as delicious. My wife only had Brie and Garlic bread and again was very pleased. I ordered Filler steak cooked blue and it was as ordered and great piece of meat. The dish was complimented by mushroom gravy and the odd pint of Guinness. The staff were professional, helpful and very pleasant. It was great evening enjoyed by all my family. Don’t miss this pub when in Mandurah.
