I stayed here for two nights between Christmas and New Year and had a wonderful experience. On arrival we were met by Sarin who welcomed us and couldn't do enough for us. He suggested some great places for us to visit and also to eat at. Sarin also does an amazing breakfast. I loved the fact that I was staying in an old bank, loved the collection of thousands of cameras and enjoyed looking at the reproductions of famous paintings from Galleries around Europe. Albany Foreshore Guest House was in a great location and very central to all my needs. I also feel the need to respond to negative comments as I found them to be incorrect. Ok! the building is heritage listed but that is why it is so unique, and that is why I chose to stay there and not in a modern hotel. Looking forward to staying here again when next in Albany.

The positives - This building is in an excellent location and the Guest House portion , at the rear , is run by Sarin , a very courteous and well meaning Manager who seems to do everything , including cooking the breakfasts .
The negatives - the whole interior is dark , cluttered with a mismatch of dark old furniture together with numerous singularly unattractive glass cabinets full of old cameras . The high walls are covered with a mass of cheap prints by old masters . Everything not only looks but feels dirty , which , together with the musty damp smell in the tacky ensuite means that the beds/shower/washbasin etc , are all un inviting . All the room keys seem to be matching , so , there is no security in your room .
Action required by the owners - get rid of all the old tat , lighten/ brighten/renovate/modernise the whole place and put en suites in all the rooms , the building and the Guests deserve it .- Richard James

Firstly met by a easy going courtious young man whom made our stage very welcoming. The original bank has been converted into a B & B. Each room is a pleasure to explore with it's individual historical story, with the walls lined with paintings copied to perfection ; heavy velvet curtains, flowers and champagne added to the ambiance. In the corridor an antique table with port glasses and decanted port was always a delightful welcome to see.
The bathroom facilities were down the corridor however as I was there with family we occupied the floor. B'fast is included.

Room tip: Choose for yourself as all are interesting in a time warp downfall limited rooms with B'room facitlities.

My husband and I stayed here for just over a week in the last school holidays. As you enter this unique and treasured building we were greeted warmly by our host Sarin, a young man who couldn't do enough for you. The fact that it was my partners' birthday had been mentioned in an email. He welcomed us with a lit birthday cake and a bottle of wine.
The building is a 1888 heritage listed building, with an enormous collection of hand painted oil reproductions of famous paintings from European Art Galleries in every room as well as the collection of thousands of cameras.
The fact that we were right in the centre of the main street was wonderful.
As a film buff, it was fascinating. You have access to loads of dvds of old tv series and movies as well as complimentary port. We were there for 8 days and in that time our room was cleaned and bedding changed every two days. For what you get in the cost it is definitely value.
Amasing service, cooked breakfast with copious unending hot coffee. We met some interesting people at breakfast which was wonderful. The night before every day we were asked what we wanted for breakfast and the time so it was ready.
Sarin's ability to be professionally supportive and a gentleman to everyone, even some guests who were rude and ungracious amased me. He was a credit to this place and his obvious pride in what he does for his guests was great.

I feel a need to respond to some of the negative comments that this lovely guest house has received. Reading some of them made me angry as some statements were incorrect. And the visitors had not done their research when looking for a place to stay that obviously suited their own 'wants'.
This is a heritage building and obviously old. It is owned by a collector of cameras and reproduced paintings. Many. That is part of its 'trademark', its uniqueness.
Its quirky, different and has loads of character. Complaining about the fact that it is 'cluttered with boxes and display cabinets' is incorrect. Its a collectors hotel. The bedding is changed every second day and the rooms cleaned thoroughly after every guest. The bedding IS clean as are the rooms. WIFI IS available in the dining room.

If you want a clinically perfect, dust free and spacious hotel with Stirling silver cutlery and WIFI in every room with ten channels, your own shower, breakfast smorgasbord and plastic perfect receptionists...go somewhere else.

We have stayed in other places in Albany and much prefer here. Can't wait.We loved it so much we are returning in three weeks.

From first entering the Guest house the mouldy damp smell hit us and that extended to the bedrooms . We were given bedroom four a front room with nice views of the coast but unfortunately that's the only good point . The rooms are dark and in need of some serious work , the pictures all over the walls hold no history of Albany or in fact Australia .The rooms need a revamp and painting to expose the potential they have . The bedding was stained and we actually bought pillow protectors for our own health . The two front rooms are very noisy due to the public bar down the road and we were kept awake till 1.00am for two nights . Although you get breakfast it feels like it's on a budget we had to ask for bread with our fried breakfast but got no butter and actually felt uncomfortable asking so didn't ask again , don't rely on Wifi as it does not work and the TV only has two channels . We paid for a exclusive bathroom which is outside your room but to tell you the truth campsite amenities are better and they need to spend some serious money to bring them up to condition you expect . The guest house has got potential and is in a good position apart from the public bar but needs a lot of money spent on renovation work . The breakfast room is cluttered with boxes and display cabinets full of old cameras which the owner may like but I am sure guests do not, it could be made so much more inviting with some imagination and the office desk needs to go to a more appropriate place .Kathy and her family were great but we actually left our holiday early due to the lack of sleep we just could not deal with another night even though it cost us financially

Room tip: Away from public bar

This review is contrary to dozens of reviews. Everything Jane said in her review is untrue.
Jane and her husband came to Albany to see the Historic Car Rally. All our other guests had Porsche cars. Jane and her husband had an ordinary passenger car, and expressed jealousy (to our employee) that their car was not the same caliber.
The attitude of Jane and her husband is best summed up by a comment Jane made when she first arrived: “This place is run by Asians now, I can tell.”
The other 8 Guests who came to stay with us for the duration of the Historic Car Rally, had no trouble connecting to our WiFi. The bedding is fresh and in perfect order. The menu has a great deal of variety, and all guests are encouraged to ask for anything on the menu.
Nearly everyone who stays in our Guest House, which is within our 1881 building, is interested in the historic paintings and vast camera collection. We observed that Jane and her husband were having domestic problems. We believe that their unhappiness led to their desire to complain.
At the time Jane and her husband were in our Guest House, no other Guest complained about anything. Indeed, one couple returned to stay another night. Our Guest House is inexpensive and in the heart of Albany, with wonderful views over Princess Royal Harbour, near to shops, with off street parking behind locked gates, and we are very generous. We try to please everyone, but it is very hurtful when some people come with bad intentions.
