Have stayed more than once and discovered the larger rooms are much better. I accidentally set off the entire buildings fire alarm in the smaller room as the bathroom door was ajar while having a shower. Also had to switch the power back on after attempting to boil the jug and being left in darkness. The bedroom facilities are adequate but the smaller rooms aren't worth 105$. Importantly, the staff are friendly and approachable. I would recommend this for budget accommodation.

Friendly welcome after a long drive. Room clean tidy and all you need for a stop over for 1 night or more.
Thought also where it was in relation to shops and eating places a benefit as left the car and walked.
We ordered breakfast which was good value and very nice. So all round good stay. Many thanks.

It was a very comfortable stay. Although the bed is a bit hard but overall we had a good sleep. They provide the heater, and electrical blanket. The room is small but that's fine to us coz this is a motel. Reasonable price. Won't expect anything like a hotel service. The best thing is they provide unlimited wifi as well which can access in the motel. This is the great convenience for us. As you know most of other places in New Zealand we have a limited internet access. Yes we r aware of this place is a former hospital, but so far so good. Not haunted at all. I reckon is a unique place as is up on the hill and can see the night view. Eden gardens motel is a name of the motel so don't need to expect there is a garden. The staff or the owner are really friendly to us too.

Thanks for staying with us! We replaced some firm mattresses with new soft NZ-style mattresses to guarantee a comfortable stay recently. We are looking forward to serve you the best next time!

I was in China for 5 weeks and as soon as I checked into Eden Gardens, it was like being straight back in China, the shiny cream tiles, dark fake wood colour on the furniture and the hard as hard can be beds. The hastily renovated bathrooms that haven't been planned out. We had a double room with bathroom in the middle. We had tea, coffee etc. however the jug was in the other room? And the other room had a tv, we just had a gaudy bed and cheap ostentatious furniture. On the website the pictures look great, someone was an expert at marketing! This is on a hill in the old maternity hospital (we had to make sure it wasn't haunted), and the surrounding buildings and area was pretty sparse. In saying that the room was clean, warm and the shower was good. Would stay there again if nothing else was available. Wouldn't want to stay there for more than a night as the bed isn't quite what domestic tourists are used to.

On driving up, we thought we had got the wrong address and my son says... "what the hell have you booked mum ? " LOL
Its an old hospital that s been refurbished inside but grubby and deralict on the outside. And not a garden in sight !! The only view is from the smoking deck facing East.
The ensuites in the rooms were lovely but honestly, thats where it ended.
The beds are ROCK hard, i mean really really hard. I like a hard bed but i think the floor would have been softer. No toppers available either. Nice Chinese couple running it but when we asked for a bit of a late checkout they said it was $20 an hour because it would hold the cleaners up. For a start they were the cleaners and the place was empty .Not recommended.

Room tip: Bring your own bed.
