Congratulations to Alison & Andre on creating this masterpiece lodge. You know that you are going off the beaten track to a special place when you drive down the long dirt entry road. What you are entering is not just a home to travelers, but a home to nature: to exotic birds, to a beautiful array of flowering plants, to a small farm of chickens and the like and, of course, to two very friendly dogs.
What we loved most about our 2 day stay, was the attention to detail on the property itself, in the main house, in the rooms, and of course, the attention paid to cooking up fabulous evening meals. Although not originally on the route, we found our stay at Birds Ferry Lodge to be one of the highlights of our extended NZ journey.
Alison & Andre are a great team. Andre knows the area like the back of his hand, and even on a potentially rainy day, sent us off for some great paths (some well trodden, others pretty untouched). Alison is the perfect hospitality host. The evening meals were delicious, and of course extremely convenient. We were lucky on our second evening to share food and wine with a fun couple also staying at the lodge.
Do take the long walk through the back side of the property and soak up the sounds and sights of this very special property.
