“A stunning and unique experience in stunning Queenstown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2011

Azur was a bit of luxury for us at the start of our holiday (we had two nights there at the start of a 9 night holiday) and we had been impressed with the website photos, so we were expecting a lot ... and Azur absolutely over-delivered.

Azur's location was incredible  - just 4 mins drive from the centre of Queenstown - yet it felt a world away. From memory there are about 9 or so villas on a hillside which means the view from each is excellent. Also, the villas are set slightly adjacent and facing away from each other which means complete privacy. We had the surreal experience of standing completely starkers in from of ceiling-to-floor glass (don't tell my wife I wrote that - she will not be happy. ;) looking out across Lake Wakatipu from our elevated positon and yet feeling in complete privacy as if no one was around for miles.
Also, the finish of the room was excellent as was the large bathroom with two person spa bath that has the same view as the main room/bedroom.
It looks everything like the photos on the website... and more.

I think the thing that surprised us the most though was the way the staff treated us - the service was excellent and very distinctive. It was personal, relaxed and friendly. If I owned a SuperYacht and had a long term crew who knew me well, I could imagine that's what it would be like with the staff on board. Nothing was a problem. When we called up for breakfast, they said 'what would you like?'  ...... And they made us anything we could think of. (On the 2nd day we tried to throw them some curve balls, but they just said 'no problem.') And then delivered it right to the room and set up the breakfast right there for us in our bay window.

So, I guess my wife summed it up best when she said: 'it's like being on honeymoon again.'
We definitely felt very very special and will absolutely be staying at Azur again.

To the Azur team: thanks for a wonderful experience. You made our holiday.

My wife & I, along with a few friends had the most memorable stay at the Azur. It is very difficult to describe in words the feeling of being at the Azur which was perfect in every way. The lodge is desinged to feel like home, exceptionally cozy and intimate. So here is how it all starts..

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Tania who was extremely warm and welcoming. Almost instantly we could tell that the staff treats the guests like family and the resort like their own home. As if that was not enough we were then introduced to Elvis - the cutest little pup. He belongs to Gavin - the General Manager - who was also very receptive and gave us a tour of the resort. While enjoying a spirited conversation with Tania and Gavin we couldnt help but notice the lingering smell of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies that hung in the air. It was then that we noticed the amazing open kitchen where Maria - the in-house pastry chef - was whipping up her magical desserts for afternoon tea.

After tea, we were escorted to our rooms which are perched on a cliff and had breathtaking views of the lake and mountains...totally unobstructed. Each room is probably 1,000 sq ft in size with a sitting area and a fire place...and bathrooms the size of small apartments in Manhattan, fitted with bathtubs, heated towel rods, and best of all, heated floors.

However, what really sets the Azur apart is the staff. The entire team is unbeleivable and go out of their way to cater to every whim! We stayed for 3 nights and never wanted to leave the lodge...that says a lot, given that Queenstown is a beautiful town with sooooooo much to see and do. The lodge does not have any restaurants of its own, but instead has a take-out service which we used every day. Why leave the best spot in town to go anywhere else ? Atleast, we thought so.

As if this wasn't enough, every everning, the Azur has a cocktail/wine hour at the main terrace which is a great way to meet other guests and sit around the fire place watching the sunset over the Remarkables. For us though, these "cocktail hours" turned out to be more like entire evenings. Our hosts, Danielle, Kariba and Anna were happy to let us induldge! Each one of them were the nicest, warmest and gracious hosts we have ever met.

Azur is definately one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at and we would definately return very soon.

Azur turned out to be even more relaxing, more luxurious and more spectacular than we were lead to believe by the other reviews on trip advisor. From the first moment we drove down an unassuming residential street to find the private gates and hedge-lined driveway of Azur we knew this place was going to be special.

The level of service we experienced at Azur was unlike anything we had experienced. For example, we booked through Azur for a meal at “The Bunker”. Once we were dropped off by the Azur staff, we walked into the restaurant to find our table had been reserved in pride of place in front of the open fireplace. Once we were finished, the same staff member met us at the restaurant door and they had placed water bottles in the back seat for us. After being offered a night-cap in the lodge, we headed down to the villa to find the fire had been lit in our absence, the plates and glasses from the canapés and pre-dinner drinks had been removed and the bed and bed and pillows had been arranged ready for bed. It was truly a extraordinary touch.

We would have moved in permanently, but the budget didn’t allow. Which was a shame because we only got to experience the heated floors, private spa bath, candles, snow covered balcony, canapes, and incredible view for a very short couple of days. The villa also has a TV, which turned out to be completely unnecessary, as we found it impossible to take our eyes off the snow-capped mountains directly outside the window.

Azur is close to town but feels a world away. Views from the villas are amazing and our villa had complete privacy. Service is the best we've ever experienced.
