Oreti beach is located at the end of the straight road just in case your gps is not able to locate the exact place. It was extremely windy during our visit and we could not get out there for more than 5 minutes. However, there wasn't much to see as well. There is no proper parking near the beach but do avoid driving and parking on the sand area as previously there were cars got stuck while trying to get out from the sandy beach.

We saw this beach in the movie The Worlds Fastest Indian and it was only a fifteen minute drive from the CBD.

The Beach is approx 33 k the sand is incredibly fine and packs really hard. You can take any car on it and travel for Kilometres without fear of becoming bogged if you are careful. This was where Burt Munro set some of his early land speed records.

A beautiful sandy beach with people parking on the beach. Plenty of space. If in a hired camper van, as we were, use the car park just short of the beach as the van would probably get stuck and you would not be covered by insurance!
Beach appears to shelve gently.

This is only 5 minutes out of town and it has a history that speaks for itself. It is the beach here Burt Monroe tested his Indian motorcycle on his way to being the fastest Indian in the world and holding world speed records
