We hopped into FLORIDITA'S in the heart of Cuba St., Wellington with high expectations.
It was a buzzin' place, smartly-decored (nice clock!), white tiling on the wall...however the young boy playing at the counter while his barista mum made coffees rang 'workplace safety' warning bells.
FLORIDITA'S was well-patronised for Sat.brunch (we could only be seated by eventually sharing a long table with another couple - no worries there).
Our problems began with fairly slow order-taking and continued with warm (not hot) coffees - Barista Mum preoccupied by Junior maybe? - and no coffee syrups (What! No caramel for Mr Wabbit's coffee?! In this day and age??!!).
Orders were eventually taken: Mrs Wabbit requested eggs and smoked salmon ($19.50) accompanied by a side of crispy bacon ($6!!!!!) and Mr Wabbit's eggs, bacon and sausages ($24!!) were to be joined by potato hash ($5).
The other couple was seated at our table, their orders taken and brunches delivered WELL before ours.
When our moment did arrive, we were underwhelmed. The salmon's flavour was dubious, the $6 "crispy" bacon sidedish was soft and barely cooked, the potato hash seemed nothing more than sauted spud with the odd herb, and eggs were better at home.
FLORIDITA'S certainly did NOT fulfill our hopes and will not see us again. We hope some of our $63.80 bill can pay for Barista Mum's child care...
