What can I say that no one else has already said, I will definitely like to stay again. All I can do is repeat all of the nice things you can read on the previous reviews. The night before I stayed at another chain hotel, and while that was nice, it was missing something, that Richmond B&B did not lack. I was welcomed in by the host, who took me on a little tour of the place, the kitchen was our last stop, and he even made me a cuppa, which was nice considering I had walked from the other side of town... dinner was close, provided by one of the chain pizza establishments. And dont even get me started on the area... its quiet and quite beautiful... even as sound travels at night, it is hard to realize you are in one of the biggest cities in this country. There are pictures that line a wall in the dining area, and I was even graced with a little local history. Which I absolutely absorbed because that is right up my alley. It really felt like I was at home, or staying with a relative, of all the places I have stayed in the past two years, this is definitely the friendliest and best value for my buck. Thanks Richmond Guesthouse, you are superb. I am not even getting paid for this :)

Room tip: I did not choose the room, but i was totally surprised by the room I got. Feels like I am at home.

Nice clean accommodation and room. The manager John is very helpful, friendly and engaging when he wants to be, but can also be moody, very watchful in public areas, and gruff.
Otherwise, it's a good stay overall.

We needed a place for an overnight stay and this place did the job. It was clean, tidy, inexpensive and John was very helpful with information about places to go and things to do. It is an easy walk to the central city and if you have a car John will give you a residents' parking card that will enable you to park on the street outside. We stayed in Room 4 and yes, as one previous reviewer has noted, the mattress does sag in the middle! Additionally the hot-water pressure in the shower was poor and it was not particularly hot either. You had to turn the mixer tap all the way up to ensure an acceptable temperature but the down side was that the overall water pressure then decreased which meant it took much longer than expected to have a shower. The WiFi worked but I found it slow trying to use it in our room. Breakfast was a variation of a "continental breakfast" and the dining room has a wonderful view across town looking over towards the National War Memorial. This is a very convenient location in which to stay and in common with other guesthouses you do tend to meet all kinds of interesting people.

We stayed at the Richmond B&B about a week ago and really enjoyed our time here. The check-in was very friendly and attentive. We felt welcome right away. The rooms are newly renovated, super clean and have a great nostalgic charm (nice furniture). We really weren't missing a thing - hairdryer, toiletteries, fresh towels and even the daily newspaper, everything was already waiting for us in the room.

Parking outside along the street is easy as John, the B&B manager, will hand you out a parking permit.

The B&B is conveniently located and only couple of blocks away from the city centre. It took us less than 15min to walk down to some great restaurants (check out Pizzeria Napoli!) and the Te Papa Museum. Mt Victoria is also just a couple of blocks away.

The continental breakfast with the biggest selection of mueslis that we've ever seen delivers a great start in the day. John, who is the host and soul of the B&B, will serve you fresh toast and coffee, accompanied by some groovy tunes out of the nostalgic radio. We had some great chats during breakfast, in which he answered all of our questions regarding the historic building, Wellington and its earthquake history.

Trust me, there is no better accommodation in Wellington within this price range than the Richmond B&B . Affordable room rates, free parking, free wifi (500MB) central location, free laundry, fast dryer, continental breakfast included and a team of friendly staff - this is certainly unbeatable!

Thanks again for making our stay so enjoyable!

Best wishes

John was an amazing host--very friendly, had great stories, and extremely accommodating. The room itself was massive, and the antique furniture was a great touch! This is definitely one of the best places I've stayed in NZ over the past 6 years.
